    Hello,

I and bunch of other artists got together and made artwork for a beautiful artbook, focused on our local Southern Resident Killer Whales. I’m running a Kickstarter for the funds to print it – and we are still short of our goal! The funding is for printing the materials (books, stickers, etc), which will then be sold and 100% of proceeds given to the Center for Whale Research and Orca Network.

If this sounds up your alley, please check out our Kickstarter at
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247395291/those-who-remain-a-srkw-charity-art-book
And please share this with whoever else you think may be interested! We’re about 80% funded with a week left!

    Thank you!

Wow, Michael Waldo, I reply to someone asking if anyone is “truly carless” and you pick up that I’m smug? No, I’m not. I only replied to the erroneous belief that no one is carless. There are those of us that are. Nowhere do I suggest that everyone can go without, only that I do. I didn’t insult anyone in my posts, so I don’t understand your insults and name-calling.

Late to this thread, I know. Every time I use the path, I’m amazed how few people understand the basics of “multi-use.” Five-across walkers, center-of-path pedestrians with earbuds who can’t walk/run a straight line, riders of the four-person canopied bikes (bonus points for riding those two-abreast and going slower than a fast walking pace), and cyclists going 15mph or more who can’t bother with “on your left.” I run within 24 inches of the right edge and at least weekly get brushed by a cyclist passing without warning. A little courtesy and common sense can go a long, long way.

These policies completely ignore the working class folks who need a vehicle to do their jobs. If you are a carpenter, house painter, plumber, landscaper, roofer, house cleaner and so on, you need a vehicle. It is like saying no working class people need to live in Seattle. reducing cars in the city is not a solution to climate change. Not when we have cargo ships belching out exhaust, Seatac airplanes, UPS trucks, the cement plant in Southpark (a major polluter) delivery trucks of all kinds. It is fine you don’t have a car newnative but not everyone can do without. Your smugness and holier then thou attitude really is off putting.

Well, if you’re going to use a special, made up definition of “truly carless” then I guess you won’t find any, innit? Truly carless is someone who doesn’t own or regularly drive a car. Car sharing and taxis don’t require parking spaces. I don’t have to tell people not to drive to see me because there is always plenty of parking in my neighborhood (Admiral District). Sometimes I ride with people because we are going the same way and why would I let them waste the passenger seat? I have taken the ferry and bus to Poulsbo, the clipper to Victoria and San Juans. You’re right that I don’t do a lot outside of the city limits but that is the shortcomings of our transit system, I would if hiking, trains/transit were available. But what people choose to do wasn’t the topic.

This role will largely support the overall needs of the taproom, with a secondary focus on pouring beer.

    Here’s what we’re looking for:

Flexible Schedule with willingness to pitch in and do everything! Are you open to working sporadic hours, short and long shifts, and also nights and weekends? We’re looking for someone who’s willing to do it all — including the not so glamorous stuff like cleaning in addition to pouring beer.
Beer Interest/Knowledge: (you don’t have to know everything…just love beer and be willing to learn)
Personality: a must-have. Be prepared to engage with customers, get to know them and showcase your personality and excitement for Ounces, local breweries & beer!
Attention to detail: must be extremely detailed oriented and able to multi-task. (Ie: Can you manage cleaning/tidying, changing kegs, taking out trash and dirty dishes all at once? Plus notice there is a pile of pretzels on the ground in the corner that needs to be cleaned up? This is what we’re talking about.)
Passion & willingness to go above and beyond: Do care about the small stuff? Do you notice a piece of trash on the ground an pick it up? Is it important to you to make sure each customer feels like they get the best experience possible? Does it bug you when you see something out of place? Do you get excited about a new beer that just came on tap? Do you care about the perfect pour? We care about this stuff and want someone who does too.
    – Someone who can be an extension of our team: Be prepared to work closely with ownership. We’re very involved—and are looking for this person to carry on the energy, vibe and experience of what we’ve already created.
Interest in long-term growth within business: Though this is a part-time seasonal role, we’d love to find someone who is interested in a permanent role. Tons of opportunity for the right person.

-Manage taplist (tap new kegs, keep menu board up to date, update taps & pos…etc)
-Manage inventory (stock food & supplies, pack food…etc)
-Cleaning (lots of cleaning!!! everything from dishes & tables to trash, taps & toilets)
-Open/Closing Setup/Teardown (set up beer garden stools, turn on heaters – everything needed to open and close business)
-Provide excellent customer experience (interact with repeat & new customers, provide excellent customer service, make sure taproom experience is perfect at all times…etc)

    DETAILS:
$13-15 hr + tips (depending on experience)
20hrs +/- per week (with sporadic schedule depending on events, weather…etc)

I’m a truly carless people. I moved here without a car and briefly belonged to Zipcar but found it too expensive. I had two bikes stolen and until 2 1/2 years ago, only used the bus for leisure (I walked to work). Now I have a monthly Orca pass and bus daily. The complex I live in has quite a few empty spaces in its parking garage and when my partner rents a car he is always able to find street and off-street parking. Our complex also rents out parking spaces and apparently one person is storing 14 cars in our garage.

We subscribe to the NYT and WSJ. We’ve had delivery issues for a while. Late papers, missing papers, the wrong papers. When I report it, sometimes we get a redelivery, and sometimes we don’t.

Delivery for ST, NYT, WSJ, and a few other papers is done by a single contractor, so it’s not the fault of the individual papers.

I had issues for years. But last year we got a new delivery person. No issues at all. But we complained often about our issues. Even got the district managers phone number. I guess he got tired of me calling as we got a new delivery person. You used to be able to call and reach a live person and they would get a paper to you. Know, just a robot voice asking if you want credit or the paper tomorrow. No, I don’t want the paper tomorrow! Only Sunday, if you call early enough, do you get a live person. My only small complaint is sometimes when they throw the paper on the porch, they knock off some of the flowers in a pot.

I’m about to cancel my Seattle Times subscription because my delivery service is so spotty. And when I miss a times delivery, the NYT and WSJ doesnt arrive as well.
Any suggestions of other ways to get decent local news online or delivered?

    Qualifications:
Have a positive attitude and *extreme* patience
Must be willing to get dirty
    Have good customer service skills
No previous dog experience necessary, but helpful!
Attention to detail, and being highly organized is a must
Be able to follow direction and work as a team, yet also to work independently when needed
Have a flexible schedule, early morning, midday and evening shifts are all needed
Must be able to be on your feet for multiple hours, be able to lift up to 40 or 50 pounds, and be physically fit enough to stay active in a very high energy environment
Must be at least 18 years old
Must be willing to learn all proper sanitizing and disinfecting techniques used in our daycare setting (Please keep in mind, about 90% of this job will be cleaning!)

We are looking for someone to work part-time, 20 to 25, but up to 30 hours per week, and do at least 1 overnight per week. Please note in your cover letter if you are willing and able to work full time (40 hours) in the near future, we will be willing to discuss it. The position starts at $11.50 per hour plus tips. Wage plus tips will equal a minimum of $14 per hour worked in the pay period (though we usually average more!)

PLEASE do not walk in or call, the pups can get very excited during our busier times! Email your resume and cover letter explaining why you think you’d be a good fit here at Stella Ruffingtons to info@stellaruffington.com. Please include any other jobs or obligations you may have at the moment, and what (if any) days/shifts you are not available.
