no there were no previous exchanges with my assailant whatsoever; no words, glances, inappropriate gestures…nothing between us.

the police report indicates, from a statement by the Costco gas attendant, that after his wife pulled her husband away from my vehicle she said: “his tires spun on the pavement, which startled me and being close to delivery of my baby, my husband went nuts”.

she was not in the crosswalk but standing on the sidewalk within the Costco parking lot, not on a public street. There was no intent on my part to startle her. My tire only spun briefly as I was trying to clear a parking lot intersection as another car almost hit me while that driver was on her cell phone.

I did not deserve in any fashion to be pursued across the parking lot and ambushed in my own car by her husband violently jerking open my driver’s door and physically assaulting me. I had to threaten to shoot him if he did not stop with the physcial violence. Having a concealed weapons permit, this was the closest I have ever come in 30 years to using my licensed & permitted handgun.
