The problem is the way the executives in charge are currently being compensated. they have no incentive to prioritize the long term health of the company and/or stock and every incentive to profiteer in any way they can.

Yes, they will lose their job when the company ultimately fails, but they will be paid very well for doing so and trashing the company will count less than the short term stock profits when securing another job..

because those in charge are not in the business of producing anything but money and every time an executive makes his stock jump he makes the portfolio of those invested in wall street jump.

smart investors who control their own money cash out on those jumps. The rest of us whose money is tied up in managed retirement plans eat the losses :(
