mellaw6565 is right! Small drywall jobs can be great DIY projects. Drywall is an art. it really is like arts and crafts. Drywall is fairly inexpensive, so no great expense if you happen to use an extra sheet or two. The material is EASY to work with and goes up easy, just as mellaw6565 says.
The “art” is the taping and mudding (plaster) where you make the joints as invisible as possible. Go easy on the mud, it is much easier to add more after the first application has dried than having to do a lot of sanding.
Take the Home Depot class and go for it. It will either be a (hopefully fun) adventure, or you will learn that you do not like to do drywall.
