Breezy
The how we look at ourselves link I’ve watched before and is very eye-opening. Was in a class once and the professor asked us to think about a name we were called or something that was said to us when we were young, a label if you please. We were to then get up and introduce ourselves to each other using that name(s). I introduced myself as “Hi. I’m too thin and eat like a bird.” This I heard from the time I was very young and still hear at times. The one that sent me from the room in tears was the young woman who introduced herself as, “Hi. I’m stupid and ugly.”
She had heard these adjectives, remembered their ugliness, and still thought of herself in that way. The lesson/objective was to watch what we say to and about others – we were future teachers.
I am thin. I am at the low end of the size/height charts because I always have been, since birth. I am active and I eat.
I have been on the receiving end of some ugly comments because of this. While no one would ever dare say to a person, “you’re too fat. stop eating that.” I frequently hear, “you’re too thin. you need to eat more.”
Why is this okay?
