The celebration at the pool, 8603 Fauntleroy Way SW in Lincoln Park, will begin on the deck at 11 am and include light refreshments and special entertainment. The celebration on the deck is free; regular fees apply for all swims, however the slide will be free all day. See swim schedule below.

The event will also include the unveiling of the restored entry mural, which was commissioned in 1941 when the pool was opened. The mural was restored with help from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture. A presentation by mural conservator Peter Malarkey will take place in the lobby at 10:15 am.

These events include FREE public swims, water and boat safety information, and fun activities for kids.

Low-cost Life Jacket Sale @ Southwest Pool
Jun 9 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

From Seattle Parks and Recreation:

The sun is emerging from behind the clouds, the weather is getting warmer, and summer is just around the corner. Soon, many community members will be drawn to pools, beaches, and water sports across the region. And as water recreation increases, water safety becomes especially important. According to the Center for Disease Control, over 4,000 people drown each year in the United States, and among children between the ages of 1 and 14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death.

Life jackets save lives, and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is partnering with Seattle Children’s Hospital, the National Safe Boating Council, and Mustang Survival to host low-cost life jacket sales at pool locations across Seattle. Attend one of six life jacket sales to buy discounted life jackets for you and your family. Infant and youth size life jackets are $20, adult sizes are $30, and families who qualify for SPR scholarships pay $10 for any life jacket size.

Storytelling Festival on Vashon @ Vashon Theatre
Jan 26 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Vashon Wilderness Program (VWP) will host its 13th Annual Storytelling Festival on Sunday, January 26 at 1pm at the Vashon Theatre on Vashon Island. This free, family-friendly event is “for the community, by the community” and will feature nature-based stories–personal, mythic, and ancestral–told by VWP’s seasoned staff and audience members alike.

Storytelling is a core routine at VWP’s nature-immersion programs. Their staff practice oral traditions to inspire the children and instill valuable lessons in wilderness survival, naturalist skills, and community building. VWP students also practice sharing their own stories, both to help deepen their learning journeys and to discover their authentic voices.
