WS Junction ‘Day of Giving’ fundraising event @ West Seattle Junction (see listing)
Apr 29 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

In the West Seattle Junction this month: A “Day of Giving” on Saturday April 29th, 10 am–6 pm. Participating shops and restaurants will give 10 percent of their proceeds to nonprofits of their choice that day. From the West Seattle Junction Association:

Giving back has always been a part of what it means to be West Seattle. Our deep neighborhood pride comes through in everything we do and exemplifies the spirit of “neighbors helping neighbors.”

In The Junction, our local businesses are proud to give back throughout the year to the many deserving causes in our neighborhood and beyond. Within The Junction business community, there is a profound sense that it’s the right thing to do and that by supporting our local nonprofits we can strengthen our neighborhood and thrive.

In the spirit of that commitment, The Junction businesses are teaming up with their favorite nonprofits for a fun day of shopping and eating to benefit many important causes. On April 29th, each participating business will be donating 10% of their sales to the nonprofit of their choice. Stop by your favorite Junction retailers and restaurants to lend your support and make a difference through your purchases. It’s an easy and fun way to show your community spirit and just how much you care!

You can see the early list of participants, and their chosen recipients, by going to this page on The Junction’s website.

Alizah Olivas trunk show @ CAPERS
Dec 16 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Dec 16-17, Alizah Olivas Trunk Show. Meet this local jewelry artist in person and select from fine silver and semi-precious stone necklaces and earrings.

Local jewelry artisan Alizah Olivas will be at CAPERS Dec 16, 10 am-6 pm and Dec 17, 9:30am-5pm, selling her beautiful silver and gemstone pieces – perfect for a special lady on your holiday list!

“Alizah’s pieces speak to so many of our customers,” said CAPERS owner Lisa Myers. “In fact, one of our clients snapped a photo of a beautiful silver necklace she wanted and sent her husband back to buy it for Christmas!”

A West Seattleite born and reared in White Center, Olivas began creating jewelry about 10 years ago. With support from her husband, family and friends, she has been learning and crafting jewelry ever since, attracting many collectors in the area.

“Whether it's a new gemstone I’ve found, a new shape I want to create, or a combination of the two, making each new piece is simply fun. If I’m smiling when I’m done with a piece, I’m hoping you’ll be smiling while wearing it,” said the proud lab owner of George and Gracie, who keep her company while she works.

Silver has always been Olivas’ favorite metal to wear and work with.

“The bright reflectiveness makes me happy and adding semi-precious stones only makes it better. Hopefully, my jewelry brings a brightness to your day,” shared Olivas.

For more, stop by CAPERS in-store at 4525 California Avenue Southwest in West Seattle, see our December calendar of events or visit www.alizahsjewelry.com.

Men’s Fellowship Luncheon @ Masonic Hall
Mar 30 @ 12:00 pm

Event: Men’s Fellowship Luncheon.
Donation: Free
Where: Masonic Hall, 4736 40th Ave. SW
When: Friday, March 30, 2018. Doors open @ Noon.

Purpose: This is not a Masonic event, although the members of the Masonic Lodge are preparing the meal and providing the facilities–and we express our appreciation for their hard work. It is also not a religious event, although men of Christian faith may wish to include this luncheon as part of their Good Friday remembrance. There will be no formal program. Instead, this is an opportunity for all men of our West Seattle community to gather together, and share a great meal and fellowship. Meet your neighbors and fellow workers. Newcomers and those in need especially welcome. If we succeed this first year, we plan to make it an annual event. So your attendance will be critical. (And, if someone wants to do the work needed to organize a similar Women’s luncheon, the sponsor would be happy to sponsor that as well).

RSVP: Not required; however, RSVP to martinmonk@yahoo.com or 425-681-5024, will be appreciated to help us plan the amount of food needed.

Calendar Date: Thursday, 4/12/18

Event: West Seattle Chamber Luncheon – Needle Cleanup, Graffiti and Illegal Dumping – SPU Speaks Out

“Tracy Cramer, Lead Clean City Inspector housed in Seattle Public Utilities, is a real hands on, down-to-earth person who knows and is excited about her program”, reported Jim Guenther. “Her area of emphasis is needles, graffiti and illegal dumping, which I believe impacts our business community and West Seattle in general. She describes the program very well, including an explanation of the reporting system. This system is said to be in the implementation stage, which Tracy refers to as ‘alpha’. Her message is not to tell us what we must do, but to help us in addressing these problems.”

•Sharps, yes we are talking needle cleanup

•Graffiti on private property

•Illegal dumping

Join us for lunch on April 12th for an opportunity to connect with other business professionals and talk about the impact on your business and West Seattle.

Low-cost Life Jacket Sale @ Southwest Pool
Jun 9 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

From Seattle Parks and Recreation:

The sun is emerging from behind the clouds, the weather is getting warmer, and summer is just around the corner. Soon, many community members will be drawn to pools, beaches, and water sports across the region. And as water recreation increases, water safety becomes especially important. According to the Center for Disease Control, over 4,000 people drown each year in the United States, and among children between the ages of 1 and 14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death.

Life jackets save lives, and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is partnering with Seattle Children’s Hospital, the National Safe Boating Council, and Mustang Survival to host low-cost life jacket sales at pool locations across Seattle. Attend one of six life jacket sales to buy discounted life jackets for you and your family. Infant and youth size life jackets are $20, adult sizes are $30, and families who qualify for SPR scholarships pay $10 for any life jacket size.
