Title: Geology & Paleoecology of Puget Sound
Date & time: November 22, 2020 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Event description: In this workshop, attendees will explore the geological history of Puget Sound Basin and look at how the most recent period of glaciation shaped the environment we live in today. In addition, attendees will be introduced to the world of paleoecology. Paleoecology is the study of fossil animals and plants in order to deduce the environmental conditions in which they lived.
This event will feature Taryn Black of University of Washington’s Earth and Space Sciences. Taryn is a glaciologist and science educator based in Seattle. She hails from the foothills of the Cascades, and grew up fascinated with landscapes, the environment, and Earth’s polar regions. Her curiosity led her to take a college geology course, sparking a lifelong passion for earth science and outdoor recreation. Taryn is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in glaciology, using satellite images to study how glaciers in Greenland are responding to climate change. When not looking at glaciers on a computer, Taryn enjoys looking at glaciers from trails in the Cascades, as well as cycling and kayaking around the Seattle area.
This event will be live on zoom and required pre-registration.

Due to Covid-19 props are limited so you might want to bring your child’s favorite teddy bear, a wrapped present, or little red wagon!
We know you’ll enjoy your complimentary social media memento of the season! It’s complimentary with your food/pet donation. OR Receive full res digital files to use as you wish – this will allow you to create your own holiday cards or prints for holiday gift giving! Cost is $40 AND 25% goes back to the community via FCSA.

Church services, restaurants, grocery-store hours, shopping … all in our Holiday Guide!
With our sights set on new hope in a new year many of us feel the need to reflect on the struggles and losses of the past year and the 1.7 million souls we have lost. We also may want to say a swift goodbye to 2020 as well.
Therefore, the volunteers at Puget Ridge Edible Park thought it would be a good idea to invite our friends and neighbors to a Covid Candlelight Vigil and Say Goodbye to 2020 New Year’s Eve at the community garden. We have a luminaria candle lit pathway to bring up to 5 people at a time to our New Year’s Eve fire to toss out the old year by throwing into the fire a written message or any symbol of bad memories over the last year.
The vigil will take place Thursday, New Year’s from 6pm to 8pm at 5265 18th Ave. SW. Be prepared to wait your turn to enter the park as we are limited to 5 people at a time. Wear warm clothes and bring some warm drinks. Parking will be available along 18th Ave. SW and SW Brandon St. Heavy rain will cancel.
The volunteers at Puget Ridge Edible Park would like to offer you a healthy and happy New Year!
This year – not one single swim – here’s what longtime organizer Mark Ufkes suggests instead.
