Racists Anonymous: A New Tool for Anti-Racist Organizing
11-12 Tuesdays, 4320 SW Hill St, West Seattle

We have chosen to use the 12-Step Principles as tools for engaging internalized racial superiority and systemic racism because they promise to affirm the worthiness of all people while calling people to deep reflection on the beliefs and behaviors that deny this promise. This is not a space for experts, professionals, or those who want to demonstrate their “wokeness”; this is a place for those who are ready to admit that internalized racism is stunting their emotional growth and limiting their freedom. We gather to find renewed strength to resist our learned biases and nurture our hope for social transformation.

1,500 Free Thanksgiving Turkeys and Bags of Groceries for Families in Need

Eastridge Church will provide 1,500 free Thanksgiving turkeys and bags of groceries to families in need on Saturday, November 21, beginning at 9 a.m. (while supplies last) at their two locations: Issaquah and Seattle. The church will also be giving away new gloves for adults and children.

The giveaway will take a different look this year, in light of Covid-19 restrictions, and will be drive-thru only. The church asks that everyone stay in their cars and wear a mask when receiving their Thanksgiving meal. Also, please refrain from arriving too early to avoid traffic back-up on public streets.

For 17 years, Eastridge Church has put on the giveaway and offered a free turkey and bag of groceries to families in the community who may need a little help to put a holiday meal on their table. Eastridge Church’s goal through the event is to demonstrate to its neighbors that Eastridge cares by providing a meal this Thanksgiving.

When: Saturday, November 21, starting at 9 a.m., while supplies last

The West Seattle Campus of Eastridge Church
4500 39th Avenue SW, Seattle

The 1,500 dinner packages will be given out first-come, first-served, with no demonstration of need required to receive the assistance. One per household, drive-thru only. Please wear a mask and remain in your car. Please refrain from arriving too early to avoid traffic back-up on public streets.

Puget Ridge Edible Park New Year’s Eve Vigil
Dec 31 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

With our sights set on new hope in a new year many of us feel the need to reflect on the struggles and losses of the past year and the 1.7 million souls we have lost. We also may want to say a swift goodbye to 2020 as well.

Therefore, the volunteers at Puget Ridge Edible Park thought it would be a good idea to invite our friends and neighbors to a Covid Candlelight Vigil and Say Goodbye to 2020 New Year’s Eve at the community garden. We have a luminaria candle lit pathway to bring up to 5 people at a time to our New Year’s Eve fire to toss out the old year by throwing into the fire a written message or any symbol of bad memories over the last year.

The vigil will take place Thursday, New Year’s from 6pm to 8pm at 5265 18th Ave. SW. Be prepared to wait your turn to enter the park as we are limited to 5 people at a time. Wear warm clothes and bring some warm drinks. Parking will be available along 18th Ave. SW and SW Brandon St. Heavy rain will cancel.

The volunteers at Puget Ridge Edible Park would like to offer you a healthy and happy New Year!

Date: Tuesday, March 9, 2021

Time: 1-2 p.m.

Website: artistasstoryteller.com

The Artist as Storyteller Speaker Series, supported by the Seattle Colleges Performing Arts Fund, welcomes BIPOC artists, performers, and activists to share their work and connect with students and community members about what it means to be an artist in today’s social and cultural climate. The series emphasizes the artmaking and storytelling process as it relates to the individual and community.

In this conversation, we’ll chat with Butylene and One about their work as Seattle-based Latinx drag performers, how the pandemic has impacted their ability to perform, and how drag is a form of transgressive joy, resilience, community-making, and medicine.

This conversation is the first in a series of six speaking events. For more information and to view a complete list of upcoming speakers, visit us at artistasstoryteller.com.
