Beer and Yoga @ Ounces
Aug 11 @ 10:30 am

Two West Seattle business owners (Just Add Yoga and Ounces) are teaming up to bring Beer + Yoga to West Seattle, finally! This class is for beginners and seasoned yoga practitioners alike. Our slogan is ‘Introducing people to yoga, one drink at a time’ so you know this event will be a good time!

The morning begins with an hour long, all levels, Yoga practice with Hilary Paris. Immediately following our practice we will move to the bar for a pint of your favorite local brew at Ounces. Leave your worries at the door, get your body in motion, taste some delicious beer and get to know your community.

About the Venue: Located just off the West Seattle Bridge in the Delridge neighborhood, Ounces is bringing a taste of the Washington brewery scene to West Seattle. Ounces is a specialty taproom and beer garden serving the West Seattle community with a rotating lineup of Washington only beer, ciders & wine on 30 taps—all in a comfortable, yet trendy indoor/outdoor space open to all ages (and pets)

About the host: Just Add Yoga offers approachable, fun, and community-oriented yoga classes in bars, taprooms, and tasting rooms. We believe that yoga doesn’t have to be so serious. You don’t have to be able to do the splits or stand on your head. You don’t even have to be able to touch your toes. Join us for a class whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned pro. Cheers!

Haunted Hike

Saturday, October 13, 2018

Kiwanis Schoenwald Park

16030 Sylvester Road SW

Burien, WA

(Drive behind Sylvester Middle School)

5:30-8:30 pm

Boy Scout Troop 360 (Lake Burien Presbyterian Church) is hosting this great family event. Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, and other community groups from across the region, are coming together to offer a haunted hike this Saturday, October 13, for all kids and their families in the West Seattle area. The cost is $2 per person. There will be Halloween-themed displays and activities along the trails throughout this beautiful, forested park.

Everyone should bring a flashlight to help as they walk from display to display because the trails can be very dark. There will also be Halloween treats available at many of the displays. Roasting monkey brains that strangely look a lot like marshmallows will occur as well. The kids will have lots of fun, and this event is a great way to learn more about the many Scouting youth programs that are available to families in the area.

And the rumors that a 10-foot tall T-Rex skeleton will be roving the park in search of Cub Scouts to eat may be true. But our hero Boy Scouts, using spears, will be protecting all kids from this largest carnivore in King County. Listen for the roaring as you start your hike.

Native Plant ID and Invasive Plant Removal Along Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail @ Thistle Street Green Space
Dec 1 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

A beautiful area called the Thistle Street Green Space along the
Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail needs your help in a battle against invasive
species. Next to a local pea patch garden, Chief Sealth High School,
and Longfellow Creek, this piece of green space requires regular
maintenance to keep it clear of invaders like Himalayan
Blackberry, Buttercup, Herb Robert, and others. Come volunteer with
DIRT Corps and learn how to identify both native plants and invasive plants
as well as how to remove all kinds of invasive species so native
plants can thrive. Afterwards you can walk the trails and explore this
hidden gem in Delridge.

Jan 19 @ 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Join Seattle’s Phantasmagorical Chef [Chef Killian] for a January feast that will make Saturn blush!

Traditionally held in December, we’ve moved the Saturnalia Feast to January so you can enjoy the newer winter holidays with family and recover from your New Year revelry with friends, before diving into the extravaganza of our January Saturnalia.

In honor of the Agricultural Deity, everything you eat this night will be best-of-kind!
Sourced from ethical butchers, local gardens, and small local farms and wineries, every kind of diet and restriction is accommodated. From celiac to halal, Chef Killian is pleased to provide you a meal to remember. “The poet Catullus called Saturnalia ‘the best of days’ I promise to make this dinner one of your best!” Note: the ancient Romans had limited flatware: you will have a spoon and a knife; ample use of your fingers is encouraged.

Restorative Justice and Healing @ Youngstown Theater
Jan 21 @ 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Join us for Restorative Justice and Healing, our MLK Day of Service event in partnership with United Way of King County. Childcare and community dinner are provided.

In honoring Dr. King on this day of service, DNDA will engage Delridge and surrounding communities in constructive conversation about how race and justice influence each other in modern-day America. In examining what it means to have justice, this event will bring together neighbors of all ethnicities and races to bridge our differences and communicate through a restorative justice approach.

Utilizing the peacemaking circle, participants will engage in a non-hierarchical discussion and learn through the collective wisdom embedded in the stories and lived experiences of all participants.

This event will include a screening of the film Healing Justice, which explores the causes and consequences of the U.S. justice system and its effect on marginalized communities.

Local service-based organizations will be invited to participate and advocate for the resources they provide—including organizations like Hate Free Delridge and Young Women Empowered. Following the event, all participants and volunteers will be invited to continue discussing over a community dinner.

Please register here by Jan 18, 2019.

Free Tax Help (by appointment) @ Southwest Library
Mar 9 @ 10:30 am – 5:00 pm

At the Southwest Library:

The Seattle Public Library, AARP, and the United Way of King County are working together to offer free tax help at 12 locations throughout the city through mid-April. Trained volunteers can answer questions and prepare personal tax returns.

This service is free and available to individuals by appointment at this location. Visit or call the branch to make an appointment. The free service is not available for business tax returns.

Due to federal budget cuts the IRS is unable to provide the Library with certain tax forms and instruction booklets. Most IRS forms are available online at www.irs.gov. You may make black-and-white prints of the forms from Library computers for $.15 per page.

Drop-in tax help at this location is offered only as available.

The last client will be taken 30-45 minutes before the end of drop-in hours.

Contact info: Southwest Branch 206-684-7455 or Ask a Librarian

Space is limited at library events. Please come early to make sure you get a seat. Due to the fire code, we can’t exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms.
