Important! All pets must be on a leash or in an appropriate carrier/cage.
Children of all ages are also welcome to bring their stuffed animals or photographs of a beloved pet for a blessing.
This custom is conducted in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
Please note: Due to potential pet dander allergies, we will be removing the pew cushions for this service. Feel free to bring your own cushion if you would like a softer seat.

Resting Waters, along with celebrant Danna Schmidt of Waypoint Ceremonies, invites you to our Blessing Of The Animals. Taking inspiration from St. Francis of Assisi, we ask you to bring a photo or a totem that represents your beloved companion for our altar.
“May we see the miracles of life and love in all the animals with which we share our lives:
in the cold nose of a dog,
in the warmth of a cat on your lap,
in the wondrous otherness of the hamster and the songbird,
in the graceful beauty of the goldfish.
Bless them all as they bless us.”
This event is for all animals that occupy our hearts and homes, living or past.
We hope you will join us for a blessed evening.
This event is part of Deathsploration month in western Washington.
We’re all gonna die, let’s talk about it, a little.
Deathsploration is a month-long effort to increase conversation about death and dying in Washington. Beginning on October 1 and running through November 2, community organizations and businesses in western Washington will work in partnership to create opportunities for engagement through education, art, dance, movement, death cafés, community outreach, workshops, and more.
In the United States, the topic of death and dying is not commonly paired with living. Deathsploration is an opportunity to reestablish the normalcy of death, a subtle reminder that talking about and preparing for death will not cause one’s death. Similarly, not talking about death will not keep it away. It is our hope that the exploration of death–through all the senses and on our own terms–will help people on the way to a good death.

Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) presents a special screening of Promised Land, a social justice documentary on the Duwamish and Chinook tribes, their fight for restoration, and the federal recognition process’s stance toward indigenous sovereignty today.
Doors open at 7PM for appetizers, drinks, and socializing, with the film starting at 8PM. A representative from the Duwamish Tribe and also the filmmaker will be in attendance to introduce the film and to lead discussion afterward.
$10 donation at the door, half of which will be given toward the Tribes’ fight for restoration and recognition.
From the filmmakers:
Promised Land is an award-winning social justice documentary that follows two tribes in the Pacific Northwest: the Duwamish and the Chinook, as they fight for the restoration of treaty rights they’ve long been denied. In following their story, the film examines a larger problem in the way that the government and society still looks at tribal sovereignty.
Vashon Wilderness Program (VWP) will host its 13th Annual Storytelling Festival on Sunday, January 26 at 1pm at the Vashon Theatre on Vashon Island. This free, family-friendly event is “for the community, by the community” and will feature nature-based stories–personal, mythic, and ancestral–told by VWP’s seasoned staff and audience members alike.
Storytelling is a core routine at VWP’s nature-immersion programs. Their staff practice oral traditions to inspire the children and instill valuable lessons in wilderness survival, naturalist skills, and community building. VWP students also practice sharing their own stories, both to help deepen their learning journeys and to discover their authentic voices.
Audience members of all ages are invited to bring a prepared 5-minute story, spin a tale in the One-Minute Story-thon, or join the fun, interactive group storytelling improv games.
The Storytelling Festival is best suited for ages 4 and older. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to purchase snacks and sign up for a tellers’ spot.
VWP (a 501c3 non-profit) provides nature immersion programs for people for all ages from Vashon and surrounding Puget Sound communities. To date, VWP has helped nearly 4,500 children, teens, adults, and families connect deeply with themselves, each other, and nature through their transformative nature mentoring programs, camps, workshops, and trainings.

The Kiwanis Club of West Seattle can’t have a pancake breakfast this year so they’re raising money for charity via an online auction, November 27th through December 5th.
We will have Silent Auction items to bid on – kids items, cooking items, and gift cards, Just to highlight a few items. During the Pandemic, this is an excellent opportunity to purchase some gifts without having to leave your home.
This year you will log into the virtual auction, you sign up and will be given a BID NUMBER to use on the Silent Auction items. This can be used for the silent bidding, making a donation, and raffle tickets.
It takes a lot of people to make the Saint Nicholas Faire a success. Your willingness to support this is very much appreciated.
Remember, this is a fund raiser for the West Seattle Food Bank. All the proceeds and cash donations are given directly to this deserving extended ministry. But it will not be a success unless you sign up to bid, bid on items, and have a good time!
We look forward to seeing you (virtually)

Don’t miss an incredible evening with J Mase III and co-editors of the Black Trans Prayer Book. Join the contributors of the Black Trans Prayer Book for an evening of spirited connections.
We will add the streaming link here and on our Facebook event page one week before the event
The Black Trans Prayer Book: is a beyond-faith-and-interfaith, multi-dimensional, artistic and theological work that collects the stories, poems, prayers, meditation, spells, and incantations of Black Trans & Non-Binary people. Often pushed out of Faith spaces and yet still deeply connected to a historical legacy of spiritual essentiality, Black Trans People face unprecedented amounts of spiritual, physical, and psychological violence. The Black Trans Prayer Book is a tool of healing, and affirmation centered on uplifting Black Trans & Non-Binary people and celebrating our place within faith.
What does it mean to have a faith practice that simultaneously challenges white supremacy and transphobia? Where is there a theological framework that centers the most marginalized and creates pathways towards an active spirituality moving alongside social justice? How might a spiritual practice not in tune with these questions cause harm? The #BlackTransPrayerBook, is holding these very questions.
