Schedule:
2-2:30 pm check-in/registratio
2:30-4:30 pm bowling
3:30-4 pm silent auction/raffle
Latest details are here.
You are invited! Come All Around the World with us!
Thanks to the community support of Sanislo Elementary’s auction last year, we kicked our $5,000 goal to the curb and raised $15,000!
This windfall provided a mindfulness program, increased teacher stipends, created a ‘book fair bucks’ program and is affording scholarships to kids in need so they can participate in after-school enrichment! YOU, yes YOU, helped make this happen!
Let’s do it again!
Our annual auction is just around the corner and we hope you can join us once again in supporting educational equity.
Details:
– All Around the World Auction
– Saturday, June 2nd from 6 pm-10 pm
– Alki Masonic Center, 4736 40th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116
– Silent Auction
– Dinner and TWO Drink Tickets Included!
– A special performance by Seattle Kokon Taiko Japanese Drummers, a DJ, Dancing and more!
You can reserve your tickets online, or, if you can’t make it but would like to donate, you can do that through the link below as well.
Donations to our auction make a significant impact in the education of our kids. With over 70% of our families living in poverty, our school community simply cannot raise these essential funds alone. We hope to see you there!

The Roxhill Elementary School program is moving into the newly renovated E.C. Hughes building in time for the 2018-19 school year. To learn more about these programs and services, please join us for a community meeting on Thursday, June 7, from 6-7 p.m. in the Roxhill Library, 9430 30th Ave. SW. Madison Middle School Jazz Concert, 7 pm in the commons on campus.
From Seattle Parks and Recreation:
The sun is emerging from behind the clouds, the weather is getting warmer, and summer is just around the corner. Soon, many community members will be drawn to pools, beaches, and water sports across the region. And as water recreation increases, water safety becomes especially important. According to the Center for Disease Control, over 4,000 people drown each year in the United States, and among children between the ages of 1 and 14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death.
Life jackets save lives, and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is partnering with Seattle Children’s Hospital, the National Safe Boating Council, and Mustang Survival to host low-cost life jacket sales at pool locations across Seattle. Attend one of six life jacket sales to buy discounted life jackets for you and your family. Infant and youth size life jackets are $20, adult sizes are $30, and families who qualify for SPR scholarships pay $10 for any life jacket size.

Brita Fordice was born, raised and learned to fish in Washington state. She taught herself to tie flies at age 10. Once she started, she never stopped.
These days she is an accomplished angler and guide on the beaches of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound, where her custom patterns really shine for cutthroat and salmon. Her flies have been featured in national magazines and she currently works for Sage Manufacturing in their research and development department.
She will be in the shop tying her remarkable baitfish patterns on the evening of Thursday, August 23.
Anyone interested in chasing fish that feed on other fish, either in fresh or salt water, or anyone interested in learning from masterful fly tying shouldn’t miss this event. Brita’s meticulous flatwings, squid, eel and shrimp patterns are uncanny representations of baitfish species.
EWA Fly Shop
August 23rd, 7 pmBrita will start tying at 7:00 pm. She’ll work through a series of patterns and techniques and answer questions for an hour and a half. Tickets are $10 and available here. First showing in the area of the screening LIKE.
A one-hour documentary about the impact of social media on our lives.
Seattle Lutheran High School invites you to a free screening of LIKE. Technology is a tool. It’s here to stay and social platforms are a place to connect, share and care, but what’s really happening? Are we addicted? How do we stop? Where do we start? What do we need to know? By understanding the effects of technology and social media on the brain, on our lives and on our civilization, we can learn how to navigate it more safely together.
IndieFlix goal for this film is to inspire people of all ages, especially kids, to self-regulate. It’s not about blame. It’s about looking in the mirror and empowering ourselves to create balance in our lives and to learn to be there for each other. (Go here) to view the official trailer of the documentary.
Organizations and businesses that provide housing to seniors will be present to provide information and answer questions about independent living, retirement communities, assisted living, skilled nursing, and low income options.
Lunch is free to those who visit four vendors at the Fair.

Fairmount Park Elementary PTA General Membership Meetings
We need help from all of our parents and teachers to continue raising funds to support school initiatives. By becoming a member of PTA and attending meetings, parents can also stay informed of the events and decisions taking place at our school. We strongly encourage everyone to renew or start a new membership for only $15 per person.
To join, simply attend our next PTA meeting or register online (http://www.fpepta.org). This gives you a vote (voice) on how your fundraising dollars are spent towards our amazing programs: music & art, enhanced assemblies, the Backpack program, student wellness, parent education events, and much more.
General Membership Meetings for the 2018/19 school year will take place at the school cafeteria, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
All are welcome to attend. Child-care services will likely be available for these meetings. Contact board@fpepta.org with questions.

We’d like to invite the West Seattle Community to our Nov. 13th, PTSA General Meeting for a presentation on the state requirement for 24 credits for graduation. Presentation by Heidi Bennett, Wa. State Region 6, Legislative Representative.
NEW 24 CREDIT GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS & DECIPHERING HIGH SCHOOL – A guide for middle and high school parents
With the change to WA State 24-credit graduation requirements approaching, I’ve developed a presentation geared toward middle and high school parents to explain:
v New WA State 24-credit graduation requirements
v State and Federal testing High School requirements
v Deciphering acronyms – PPR, HSBP, AP, IB, CHIS, CTE, STEM, etc. – do you know what these are?
v Why and how to earn post-secondary credit (college or work credentials) in high school
For Shoreline and Seattle, the 24-credit graduation requirement starts with the class of 2021 (rising 10th graders) and beyond, as both districts have a 2-year waiver. Neither district has finalized plans for offering more credits beyond their current 6-period day/24 credit earning opportunities! YIKES
Come and learn more about this new requirement

Our Lady of Guadalupe Immigrant Ministry is excited to host Professor Catherine Punsalan-Manlimos, PhD from the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture at Seattle University on Thursday, February 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the School Hall.
Together, we will explore our collective memory with regards to our immigration history. Most of us in the U.S. today are either immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. With the exception of our Native American brothers and sisters and the descendants of enslaved free peoples from Africa, many of us or our forebears immigrated to this country seeking a better future and freedom from persecution, violence, or poverty. Reflecting on the history of U.S. immigration in light of Catholic Social Traditions can remind us why fighting for policies that honor the dignity of our migrant brothers and sisters is a matter of faith and a matter of justice.
The 7th Annual West Seattle High School Big Band Dinner Dance is coming up on March 1st. This is a fun evening of music, dancing, raffles, dinner, and appetizers. Music is provided by the WSHS Jazz Ensembles 1 and 2, the WSHS Orchestra, and the West Seattle Big Band. All food is prepared by the WSHS Culinary Arts Program. All proceeds benefit the music program and help us to provide travel scholarships, music coaching, and support the growth of our growing music program. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They are available online (here).

From the Fairmount Park Elementary PTA website:

We wanted you to know about a FREE panel of amazing women open-water swimmers on March 21st … many of them swim weekly at Alki Beach … We will also feature a Triple Crown winner, one of the very few swimmers in the world to complete three historically important swims: The English Channel, (33.7 km) the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, (48.5 km) and the Catalina Channel Swim (32.5 K).
Some questions the panel will address: -How do you decide which swims to take on? -What was your training schedule for the long swim? Is there an ideal amount of practice that should go into doing a 5k, a 10k, or longer? -How do you balance training with life? -How do you deal with fear in the open water? -What do you eat on long swims? Go to the bathroom? -How do you overcome negative thinking? -How do you recover?
When: Thursday, March 21st, 6:00-8:00 pm
Where: Price Waterhouse Cooper Café, 1420 5th Ave, Seattle
Featuring: • Stephanie Zimmerman (transitioned from swimming 1 mile to 10k in one year) • Heidi Skyrzypek (completed a relay across the English Channel) • Rose Filer (completed the 10.4 mile Amy Hiland Swim: Bremerton to the Alki Lighthouse)

SPRING/SUMMER 2017
West Seattle High School welcomes parents from the community.
Talking to your kid about tech and sexuality is hard! Words like “Media,” “Privacy,” “Safety,” “Porn,” and even “Sex” have different meanings than they did a generation ago.
Come learn from Jo Langford, MA, who has two decades of experience working with t/weens. She will be leading a discussion on how to connect with your child/ren in order to help them make informed decisions about and learn tools to deal with sexuality, growing up with technology, and relationships with confidence and seriousness–all while having fun along the way and doing as little harm to themselves and their peers as possible. This event will be held on March 27 at 7pm in the school Library. Please mark your calendar!
