Sanislo Elementary auction @ SSC Brockey Center
Jun 1 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

This year the auction is going to be at The Brockey Center at South Seattle College on June 1st, 2019 at 6p. Admission to the auction is $40 per person and we hope you consider joining us.

Sanislo Elementary School is building a network of dedicated individuals from throughout our community whose support and passion helps increase the chances of success for our children. Last year at Sanislo while we had a goal of raising just $20,000, we ended up exceeding this goal by 50%. We raised $30,000 thanks to all of your donations to Sanislo! The school used this money to support: mindfulness/social emotional learning, a learning garden, and scholarships for after school enrichment programs.

This year our need is even greater. I interviewed key stakeholders including the Principal in order to determine what aspect of the school was in greatest need of support. One of the largest challenges the school is facing is the increasing age of the books and other instruction materials. Our children are struggling to experience the joy of learning and self discovery partially because the average age of their books is more than 10 years old! Our library has become out of touch with reality and the children are not as motivated to participate in self guided learning as children at other schools. Help us bring the joy of learning to our children.

Our annual auction is coming up soon! We hope you can join us once again in supporting educational equity. Come enjoy an evening of fun with us: dinner, dancing, drinks, silent auction, and dancing

Stroll along almost any Seattle beach during low tide on a summer weekend and you’ll see that the shore is alive!

Not only will you witness Puget Sound’s multitude of marine plants and animals, you’ll also see beach naturalists: advocates for these living wonders sharing their knowledge with beachgoers.
Beach naturalists are local citizens who care about Puget Sound beaches and want to help protect them. More than 100 have volunteered to help people learn about and enjoy area shorelines. Beach naturalists know their beaches: they can help you enjoy the habitat without harming it; tell you what sea stars eat; explain why barnacles stand on their heads; describe how moon snails lay their eggs; and so much more. “The enthusiasm and excitement of our beach naturalists transfers directly to the public—it’s a wonderful, infectious thing!” beams Janice Mathisen, community outreach coordinator at the Seattle Aquarium. “To be able to meet a family and educate them on what a treasure we have here in Puget Sound is amazing.”

Explore the beach at low tide with Beach Naturalists @ Lincoln Park (beach) & Alki south beach
Jun 19 all-day

(Note: Beach Naturalist events occur between 10 am and 4 pm. Each day /event time varies with the tide and lasts about 2 hours. Low tide usually falls in the middle of the hours listed.)

Join trained volunteers from Seattle Aquarium’s Beach Naturalist Program for a free guided exploration at very low tide (note the dates and specific times for each day below) No reservations necessary.

Dress for the windy weather and wear shoes that can get wet and handle very slippery surfaces. This program designed for adults and 3 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Find events at Lincoln Park (beach) and South Alki/Constellation Park.

Sanislo Elementary PTA’s first ever Rainbow Party on the Playground on Friday, June 21st in celebration of Pride month. It’s free and open to ALL!

We’ll have donation collection containers should anyone be inclined to help us raise funds towards our Race & Equity and Diversity & Inclusion PTA initiatives which includes bringing in speakers, holding workshops, professional development, and adding anti-bias library materials along the subject matters of RACE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION to empower our students, their families and our community.

We are still looking for acoustic musical/entertainment performers and LGBTQ agencies whom are willing to donate their talent, time and information on the playground to entertain our families, friends, neighbors, et. al. Please contact Ebony Lee or Janay Destello at pta@sanislo.org if you can help.

Explore the beach at low tide with Beach Naturalists @ Lincoln Park (beach) & Alki south beach
Jul 2 all-day

Explore the beach at low tide with Beach Naturalists @ Lincoln Park (beach) & Alki south beach
Jul 16 all-day

Book, music and lyrics by Justin Huertas
Gregory Award-winning playwright of LIZARD BOY

Senior year (and falling in love) is hard enough, but when the discovery of her mother’s old trophy throws open the locked doors of the past, a young girl must reckon with a world turned upside down – and the arrival of strange new abilities that seem to hint at a destiny beyond her wildest imaginations. Explore the beach at low tide with Beach Naturalists @ Lincoln Park (beach) & Alki south beach
Jul 31 all-day

Tears of Joy Theatre’s ‘Snow Soup’ @ Southwest Library
Aug 2 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

At the Southwest Branch Library: Tears of Joy Theatre’s Snow Soup is a rendition of ‘Stone Soup’, an old French folktale in which hungry strangers convince the wary people of a town to each share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys. This story inspires the qualities of sharing, coming together as a community, and the value of looking beyond stereotypes. Tears of Joy Theatre has been performing cultural and educational stories nationwide for children and families for 47 years and believes in the beauty, power and vitality of puppetry as a unique theatrical experience for audiences of all ages. For ages 4-8.

This program is part of this year’s Summer of Learning program Explore Your World!, which encourages reading and activities around science, technology, technology, arts and math. We are offering over 250 free youth programs throughout the city this summer. You can pick up a Summer Action Guide at any Library location beginning June 24th.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required.

Twelfth Night Productions presents ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ @ West Seattle HS Auditorium
Aug 9 @ 7:30 pm

What do you get when you combine friendship, revenge, Dolly Parton, and perfectly feathered 1970s hair? A musical that will keep you smiling and toe-tapping from start to finish. This summer Twelfth Night Productions is proud to present 9 to 5 The Musical, based on 1980 hit movie, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick. The show will run from August 9 – 18, 2019 at West Seattle High School.

9 to 5 features a powerful trio of women, backed up by an incredible ensemble. Violet, Judy, and Doralee are fed up with the sexist, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. Pushed to the boiling point, they concoct a plan to give him the boot. When these unlikely friends take control of the office, they learn there’s nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world. This high-energy show is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.

Co-director Taylor Davis noted that she is “excited to be involved in telling a story that is incredibly relatable to women, especially in this time of awakening and empowerment. The musical 9 to 5, although light hearted and full of humor, shows that women can achieve their greatest potential by believing in their abilities and self worth.”

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets or contact the Box Office: (206) 937-1394.

About Twelfth Night Productions

Twelfth Night Productions (TNP) has dedicated itself to building an inclusive, strong, artistically sound West Seattle community through the performing arts since it started as a week-long summer camp for children thirty years ago. The organization performed its first full length production in 1995, and their season now includes an annual summer production, two smaller ensemble-driven productions in the spring and fall, and a traditional holiday show. These productions feature multi-generational casts and foster an environment where mentorship and collaboration go hand in hand.

Twelfth Night Productions presents ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ @ West Seattle HS Auditorium
Aug 10 @ 7:30 pm
