Madison MS Parent Education Night

Learn about drugs and alcohol and the teen brain and talking with teens about vaping
Join two special guest presenters and other Madison families to explore these questions and more at Madison’s second Parent Education Night of the school year. Parent Ed Night will take place on Thursday, January 30th at 6:30pm in the Madison library. Parent educator, Yvonne-Monique (Zick) Aviva will speak about how drugs and alcohol impact the teen brain. Special guest Lisa Davidson, Seattle Public Schools Manager of Prevention and Intervention, will talk about vaping and how to talk to your kids about it.

A free workshop from the Seattle Office of Emergency Management (registration required):

This workshop provides training on key skills needed after a disaster and more in depth instruction on key preparedness actions. The workshop covers the following topics: (1) Fire Extinguisher Use, (2) Utility Control, (3) Water Storage and Purification and (4) Emergency Sanitation.

Registration is suggested but not required. Registration helps us estimate attendance and ensure adequate space”

Women’s Personal Safety Course @ Seattle Police Department’s Southwest Precinct--Community Meeting Room
Feb 8 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Learn proactive tips and step you can take to enhance your personal safety in courses taught by female Seattle Police officers and employees.

In this class, you will learn:

  • the important role your instincts and gut reactions can play
  • how to identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations
  • how to make a safety plan
  • how to decrease the odds of becoming a victim.

This class features facilitated discussions and lectures about crime and public safety. It is not a self-defense class.

This class is open to women of all ages and is most appropriate for young women who are at least 14 years of age.

This class is not appropriate for children and children should not attend.

Great Conversations Between Parents and Teens @ West Side Presbyterian Church

The featured speaker is Julie Metzger, the founder of Great Conversations.
