3rd Annual Dieter Hotz Cup Regatta @ Duwamish Waterway Park

The Duwamish Rowing Club is hosting its third Dieter Hotz Rowing Regatta on Saturday July 21st from 8 AM until 2 PM at the Duwamish Waterway Park.

All are invited to this free event which features singles, doubles, fours, and quads from Duwamish Rowing and small clubs in the area e.g. Eastside Prep. Renton Rowing, Lake Stevens and more. Races will include youth from all the clubs and masters (adults of all ages). Boats will launch from Duwamish Waterway Park at 10th and Elmgrove in South Park, and spectators can view the finish line of the 1000 meter races at 12th and Elmgrove.

The Duwamish Rowing Club is a nonprofit organization with the mission of brining the sport of rowing to the residents of South Park, Georgetown, White Center, and surrounding neighborhoods, and to offer recreational access to the Duwamish River that is affordable for everyone.

MONDAY ARTISTS wants you. We are an established group of watercolorists who meet Monday mornings from 9:30 to noon at the Island View Apts across the street from West Seattle H.S. There is a minimal fee of $5 for the use of the room. First-timers are free. We start with a critique and paint the rest of the time. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome. If you are a beginner we can get you started. We usually have an annual show in the Fall. Alki Art Fair 2018 will be held on the promenade of Alki Beach on July 28th & 29th.

The Alki Art Fair offers a free shuttle from the West Seattle Park n’Ride parking lot (under the West Seattle Bridge) through the Admiral Junction to Alki Beach. Shuttle will run to and from the Beach from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm both days.

Are you looking for a way to get involved in your neighborhood? Join us in West Seattle on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss the issues that affect us all! Program details will change each month and will be updated on our website at 34dems.org.

There are many different opportunities for getting involved! You can run to become a Precinct Committee Officer or join one of our committee groups, like diversity, outreach, events, digital communications.

If you are a beginner we can get you started. We usually have an annual show in the Fall. Let’s Paint an Orca: A NW Coast Native Art Workshop @ High Point Library

At the High Point Branch: Learn how to draw/paint an orca whale with Haida artist Sondra S. Segundo. Registration is required.

Learn about the powerful relationship between the Haida people and the Orca and how to draw a formline orca step by step. Segundo will also read from her book, Killer Whale Eyes. For all ages.

This program is part of this year’s Summer of Learning program Splash! Adventures with Water, which encourages reading and activities around science, technology, technology, arts and math. We are offering over 250 free youth programs throughout the city this summer. You can pick up a Summer Action Guide at any Library location.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is required. Online registration for this program opens two weeks before the program starts and closes three business days before the program date. Make changes to your registration after that date by calling or visiting the branch.

DNDA proudly presents the 19th Annual Arts in Nature Festival at Camp Long in West Seattle!

The 19th Annual Arts in Nature Festival August 25th & 26th at Camp Long will feature art, nature, and neighborhood. The theme for artist presentation is “Convergence”. Artists and audience members are encouraged to engage in active participation with each other, other art disciplines, and with the natural 68-acre landscape of Camp Long. The event is proudly presented by the Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association.

This year, the Arts in Nature Festival is particularly excited to feature music, on August 25th, by Reverend Pat Wright’s Total Experience Gospel Choir, as she is about to retire. The festival will also feature music from artists including Naomi Wachira, De Cajon, and Gamelan Pacifica. For those of you who want to experience poetry in nature, there will be a reading featuring Seattle Civic Poet Anastacia Renee, J Mace III, and Jordan Chaney.

You’ll find multiple intimate but spectacular outdoor performance spaces, weekend-long installations in eight rustic cabin by Shin Yu Pai & Michael Barakat, Robb Kunz, Celeste Cooning, Markeith Wiley & Laura Aschoff, and more!

There will be visual installations by Vaughn Bell, Sarah Kavage & Aaron Haba, live mural painting by Angelina Villalobos and Roache the Muralist.

You can become part of the festivities and create your own works of art in nature by participating in multiple interactive, family-friendly art activities, including performance by Northwest Puppet Center, linocuts, capoeira demonstrations & a labyrinth.

If you get hungry there will be a convoy of delicious, local food trucks and a beer garden where you can wet your whistle!

Orca Half Marathon, this year starting at Lincoln Park and ending at Don Armeni Boat Ramp.

Pre-race packet pickup starts at 6:30am.

Shuttles from the finish area to Lincoln Park (starting line area) will start at 6:30am and will run until 8:30am.

Wave 4: 8:45am

Wave 5: 9:00am

Course closes: 1:00pm. Participants still out on the course after noon will not be removed from the course, but may continue with the understanding that the finish line area and aid stations will be removed at 1:00pm.

Part of the proceeds will benefit The Whale Trail.

Roads will NOT be closed – the run/walk is on trails and sidewalks.
