Twelfth Night Productions (TNP) Twelfth Night Production (TNP) is proud to present The Lux Radio Theater version of the classic 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street. TNP’s Holiday Radio plays have become an annual tradition for community members seeking to revel in holiday cheer with friends and family. Previous radio show productions have included It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.
The radio play is based on the holiday movie favorite of the same name and will be presented as a live 1940’s radio broadcast. Miracle on 34th Street tells the timeless story of an old man who calls himself Kris Kringle and is hired as the Macy’s department store Santa. His claim to be the real Santa Claus becomes a court case and a young child’s belief could make all the difference. “Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to.”
Our cast of talented Radio players also includes our incredible Foley (sound effects) actors and the one-of-a-kind 1929 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.
“If you close your eyes during this production you won’t miss a beat because all of the components – the sound effects, the organ, the commercials, and the Mistletones – work together successfully to recreate the live radio experience of the 1940’s and 50’s.”
This live radio show will be performed at historic Kenyon Hall, one of West Seattle’s favorite venues, December 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm and December 8 and 15 at 3:00pm. Bring the family and make this a holiday tradition! Tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets, or at Kenyon Hall, 7904 35th Ave. SW, Seattle WA, starting an hour before the show on performance days. Prices are $20 for adults and $18 for students & seniors. http://www.twelfthnightproductions.org/

Filming Christmas for the Whole Episcopal Church
When: December 8, 2019, 5:00 p.m.
Where: St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 3050 California Ave SWEvery year the Episcopal Church chooses one or two parishes from across the entire country to have their Christmas Eve service filmed for broadcast on their social media outlets. This year St. John’s was chosen, so a crew from New York is bringing all of their equipment to film this service. We will set up as for Christmas, because it is Christmas! We’ll have the tree, the poinsettias, the advent wreath, the candles, everything. It will be a full Christmas Eve service, but on December 8th. After it is filmed, it will be in the can until December 24th when it will be released for broadcast on all of the church’s social media channels including YouTube and Facebook and be available to view through December 23 2020.
This event is perfect for anyone who has other commitments on Christmas Eve, but who would like to experience a full Christmas Eve service. As an added bonus, you can watch it yourself any time after December 24! All are welcome!
Reception to follow, with cookies.

This December, The Esoterics will conclude its 25th season with a program of contemporary prayers, in keeping with the theme of this year: saecula sacrorum, or “secular versions of sacred forms.” Since humans first appealed to higher powers, each prayer has included three aspects: an earnest wish, a willing benefactor, and a quiet utterance. In their secular form, prayers are often made to the divine that we find in nature, in ourselves, and in our communities. In ADŌRŌ, The Esoterics will perform a concert of new choral works that explore the solace, focus, and strength inspired by the natural world.
The program will include two settings of Sara Teasdale’s poetry by The Esoterics’ composer emeritus, Donald Skirvin—There will come soft rains and Places, like music–as well as two pieces by former Polyphonos winner Christina Whitten Thomas—My cathedral (setting Longfellow) and Discovery (setting verses by poet-oceanographer Deirdre Lockwood).
In addition, the ensemble will sing When I close my eyes I dream of peace by Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist, a piece that sets this single phrase (uttered by an anonymous Croatian boy during the Yugoslav Wars) in twelve languages. The group will also sing Mason Bates’ “far-out” Observer in the Magellanic Cloud, which sets an ancient Maori entreaty to the night sky for a fruitful harvest. Director Eric Banks will also contribute a short piece to this program, At all times, setting verses on light by the XIV Dalai Lama.
The centerpiece of the concert is the eleven-movement cycle of Prayers by John Gould Fletcher, composed by Joseph Gregorio. Joe set three of Fletcher’s “secular humanist” prayers in 2013 when he won our Polyphonos competition, and they were so beautiful we commissioned him to write a cycle that included all of them! We are especially grateful to the Ann Stookey Fund for New Music for helping to fund this commission and are excited to welcome Joe, Christina, and Don for the entire concert weekend.
Please join us for this concert of care and contemplation.
General admission ticket prices are $25 at the door ($22 in advance). Discounted admission ticket prices are $18 at the door ($15 in advance) for students, seniors, the un(der)employed, and the differently-abled. Active singers in other choral groups may also attend for $15. Advance tickets are available online at www.TheEsoterics.org (through BrownPaperTickets). Admission to Sunday’s performance is by donation.

“If you close your eyes during this production you won’t miss a beat because all of the components – the sound effects, the organ, the commercials, and the Mistletones – work together successfully to recreate the live radio experience of the 1940’s and 50’s.”

On December 13, 14 and 21, The Northwest Firelight Chorale presents its Holiday concert, “Star Light, Holiday Bright – Believe in the Magic!” in three locations across Seattle: in Phinney Ridge at Phinney Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave North; in West Seattle at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 3050 California Ave SW; and in the University District at University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Ave NE. Tickets are $22 for adults, $12 for youth (5-12), and free for children 4 and younger.
The group invites the community to brighten up their holidays with this festive concert! Their ever popular holiday program will include stunning arrangements of seasonal favorites, a glorious gospel showstopper, a rousing sing-along, and the kind of joyful surprises that the Firelighters are known for. The 70-person choir, now in their 9th season, is led by artistic director Deeji Killian, a former Seattle Opera soloist with a theater and dance background. The Northwest Firelight Chorale, who perform all music memorized, are known for their innovative staging, choreography and expressive performances that provide an exhilarating experience for their audiences.
The choir has performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival, headlined twice at the Leavenworth Tree Lighting Ceremony, and opened for famed Irish tenor Emmet Cahill on his last two U.S. tours. The group also performs outreach concerts for each program at senior living facilities to bring music and healing to those who cannot easily attend its regular concerts.
The choir has embarked on three European Concert tours, most recently in the summer of 2018 when they enthralled audiences in France, Belgium and Ireland. In addition to fulfilling its mission to share soul-stirring music, the choir donated all proceeds from their performances to local charities within the regions they visited. To purchase tickets or see videos, visit the group’s website: www.nwfirelightchorale.org.
Northwest Firelight Chorale is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
In the final program of its 26th concert season, The Esoterics will articulate our common desire for emotional simplicity, or Humility. This performance will consider the origins of lowliness as a result of humiliation or hiding, surrender or sorrow, generosity or gratitude. It will also examine the various different contexts in which we find ourselves humble: while tenderly in love, while patiently or hopefully in need, while meekly witnessing the majesty of nature.
Giving voice to verses from the Bible (John and Galatians), a Mohawk prayer, a speech by Chief Joseph (Hinmuuttu Yalatlat) of the Nez Perce, poems by Pablo Antonio Cuandra, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Annie Finch, Amy Fleury, Gary Snyder, and Dylan Thomas, The Esoterics’ Humility will feature music by Gabriela Lena Frank, Stacy Garrop, Anna-Karin Klockar, Forrest Pierce, Sarah Rimkus, Sarah Riskind, Augusta Read Thomas, and Dale Trumbore.
The Esoterics will offer three performances of Humility. (One in West Seattle.)
Please join us as we foster modesty, empathy, restraint, and respect.Program list:

Twelfth Night Productions (TNP) Twelfth Night Production (TNP) is proud to present The Lux Radio Theater version of the classic 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street. TNP’s Holiday Radio plays have become an annual tradition for community members seeking to revel in holiday cheer with friends and family. Previous radio show productions have included It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.
The radio play is based on the holiday movie favorite of the same name and will be presented as a live 1940’s radio broadcast. Drinking Liberally West Seattle – Talking Politics
First Tuesday every month, 6 pm. Pizzeria 22 is at College Street and California Ave SW in Admiral.
An informal, inclusive progressive social group.
Drinking Liberally is an organization with chapters across the country. It gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics, or whatever. You don’t need to be a policy expert and this isn’t a book club – just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it’s not taboo to talk politics. Consumption of alcohol is not required and our location is all ages.
