The “silver anniversary” season of the first spawning in Fauntleroy Creek in modern history will kick off with the annual drumming on Sunday, Oct. 20, 5 pm on the creek level at SW Director and upper Fauntleroy Way. Drumming will be your sound guide to the exact location. Free for all ages; rain or shine. The salmon watch will also start on Oct. 20; details at www.fauntleroywatershed.org.

Volunteer Forest Restoration Event @ (see listing)

You and your fellow volunteers will participate in fun, hands-on conservation work led by staff with DNDA’s Urban Forest Restoration Program. Restoration work includes removing invasive plants, planting native species, and mulching new plantings, depending on the restoration progress in each site. Work parties are often accompanied by live musicians, bringing the arts and nature together for our enjoyment!

NW Delights lunch & Wine Academy tour @ South Seattle College

Experience NW culinary and wine making at the South Seattle College Campus. First stop is lunch at “Alhadeff Grill” located on-campus featuring local and sustainable
ingredients- prepared and served entirely by culinary arts students. Next is a brief tour of the NW Wine Academy, followed by a student-led, seated tasting of 4-5 wines that are produced onsite. All participants will receive $3 off any wine purchase. Activity Fee includes transportation* and wine tasting. Lunch at Alhadeff Grill and gratuity on your own.

Tinkergarten Lantern Walk @ Lincoln Park

Tinkergarten‘s Lantern Walk is designed to help kids big and small welcome and see the beauty in the darkness at the end of Daylight Saving time (aka “Fall back”). For our family and yours, we hope it becomes a magical, annual tradition. At the very least, it’s a chance to be out in the wild at night!

On the evening of the event, families will gather before dusk, sing songs, light lanterns, and enjoy an outdoor walk in the park. Simple and lovely. This event is free and open to all who register.

Winter Wander Along Longfellow Creek @ Camp Long

Fall nature outings are open for registration now!  Sign up for the popular nighttime walks, bird tours, mushroom walks, and so much more…

Winter Wander Along Longfellow Creek at Camp Long.

Longfellow Creek is a major waterway in West Seattle. It is also a little piece of the wild in the middle of the city. Coho salmon migrate up this waterway; beavers build dams and lodges on this creek; owls hunt for food along this artery. Explore a portion of this urban wilderness with a Seattle Urban Nature Guide. Look for seasonal changes and get to know some of your wild neighbors.

Be prepared to do some hiking over uneven terrain on this program.

Ages 6 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Everyone attending the program must be registered.

Nighttime at the Beach @ Me-Kwa-Mooks Beach West Seattle

Enjoy a unique Salish Sea adventure. Bring a flashlight and join a Seattle Urban Nature Guide at Me-Kwa-Mooks beach for a captivating urban nature outing/tidepool exploration at night. Program starts at Emma Schmitz Viewpoint. Please wear shoes that can get wet and handle slippery surfaces and dress for the weather.

Ages 18 and up. Everyone attending must be registered for the program.
