From the visionaries who rocked Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Avenue Q and Spring Awakening, this bold and fierce new musical comedy—set to the iconic music of the 80s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, including the hit songs “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,”—is a spirited and sexy celebration of love in all its infinite varieties.

“Characters clash, split and recombine in the time-honored tradition of Shakespeare’s great cross-dressing comedies “Twelfth Night” and “As You Like It.” […] here is the go-for-broke exuberance that made the Go-Go’s so irresistible.” – The New York Times

“A technicolor category unto itself […] The show is an ode to female independence with the winking spirit of a Shakespearean fairy and the neon edge of a rebellious ‘80s teenager, teaming up to beckon people into the woods.” – Entertainment Weekly

Words, Writers & Southwest Stories: Feliks Banel @ Southwest Library
Dec 12 @ 6:00 pm

At the Southwest Branch library, local broadcaster and historian Feliks Banel explores our region’s darkest weather days and most infamous storms in his book, Storm Warning: Historic Weather in the Evergreen State. With archival photos, radio, and TV clips, Banel takes us back in time to hear stories of those who survived some of the worst Pacific Northwest weather in recorded history.

This free event by ‘Words, Writers & SouthWest Stories,’ a historically-based speaker series of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society is co-sponsored by Humanities Washington and the Seattle Public Library. Feliks Banel’s event will take place at 6 PM at the SW Branch Library, 9010 35th Ave.SW, on Thursday, Dec. 12th, 2019.

Banel explores how the storms in Washington can revive our shared humanity. Frightening weather can bind communities together to share resources, commiserate, and protect each other. Participants are encouraged to share their own memories of how they survive being snowed in, washed out, or left without power in the wake of a big storm—and why we remember those moments for the rest of our lives.

Feliks Banel is a writer and producer and serves as editor of COLUMBIA, the quarterly magazine of the Washington State Historical Society. He has been a host and contributor for KIRO Radio on matters of Northwest history and culture for many years; he created the history series “This NOT Just In” for KUOW Public Radio, and he produces documentaries for the Seattle Channel.

‘Words, Writers & SouthWest Stories’ presentations are scheduled for the Second Thursday of each month at 6 PM at the Southwest Branch of the Seattle Public Library. Next month on January 9th, David Ward will present ROORD: To War in a Rubber Duck, one of a series of WWII historical fiction novels.

For videos on these and other speakers’ presentations, check out “Events” at www.loghousemuseum.org. This newly re-named series is open to hosting any speaker addressing historical issues relating to the Puget Sound/Duwamish Peninsula and/or the general public. Additional information on future presentations can be obtained by contacting Dora-Faye Hendricks, Chair, ‘Words, Writers & SouthWest Stories’ by phone at 206-290-8315 or e-mailing Dora-Faye@comcast.net .

TNP’s Holiday Radio plays have become an annual tradition for community members seeking to revel in holiday cheer with friends and family. Previous radio show productions have included It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.

The radio play is based on the holiday movie favorite of the same name and will be presented as a live 1940’s radio broadcast. Miracle on 34th Street tells the timeless story of an old man who calls himself Kris Kringle and is hired as the Macy’s department store Santa. His claim to be the real Santa Claus becomes a court case and a young child’s belief could make all the difference. “Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to.”

Our cast of talented Radio players also includes our incredible Foley (sound effects) actors and the one-of-a-kind 1929 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.

“If you close your eyes during this production you won’t miss a beat because all of the components – the sound effects, the organ, the commercials, and the Mistletones – work together successfully to recreate the live radio experience of the 1940’s and 50’s.”

This live radio show will be performed at historic Kenyon Hall, one of West Seattle’s favorite venues, December 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm and December 8 and 15 at 3:00pm. Bring the family and make this a holiday tradition! Tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets, or at Kenyon Hall, 7904 35th Ave. SW, Seattle WA, starting an hour before the show on performance days. Prices are $20 for adults and $18 for students & seniors. http://www.twelfthnightproductions.org/

In this free trial class, Tinkergarten Leader, Alison Arnote, will facilitate an expert-designed play scenario, allowing children of various ages and needs to explore, problem solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Parents and caregivers learn, too, as we share insight into your child’s development.

This trial class is:

  • Designed for children ages 18 months-8 years. Child/children are accompanied by an adult. Siblings of any other age are most welcome.
  • Limited to the first 15 families who register.

Kids may get a bit messy (Hurrah!), so please send them in clothing that can get dirty.

We start the class at the specified location but may end within a reasonable walk from that location.

This trial class is free.
