Plants and Animals of Roxhill Park and Bog @ Southwest Library

Join EarthCorps and the City of Seattle’s Parks Commons Program to learn about the ecology and history of Roxhill Park! Best known for its ancient peat bog that stands at the headwaters of Longfellow Creek, this neighborhood park is one of the most biodiverse natural areas in Seattle!

This event will start with a presentation by EarthCorps Volunteer Specialists who will talk about the positive impacts of urban green spaces, the history and establishment of Roxhill Park, and how to identify the native species in the park.

The presentation will be followed with a walking tour around Roxhill with EarthCorps’ Ecologist to further explore and chat about the plants and ecology of the park.

This is a great event for anyone who wants to learn more about their local park, practice their plant ID skills, and connect with others over their love of park spaces!

CNC Machining Information Session @ South Seattle College--Georgetown Campus

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines are radically changing the future of manufacturing. CNC Technicians use computerized mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses to produce the complex, 3-D structures needed across industry. Our information sessions at the Georgetown Campus allow students to tour the program space and meet their instructor.

Open Houses also give prospective students the opportunity to register for their classes.

Sessions are held at South’s Georgetown Campus in Building A, Room 122. Parking permits will be available. Learn more about the CNC Machining program.

Thriller Dance $20

Learn the “Thrill the World” version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance. During this 4-week session you will learn all the steps (no dance experience necessary) and practice the entire dance. If there is enough interest, the instructor will provide some quick tips on Zombie makeup, character and costumes. All participants will receive a dance script so that you can practice at home. After this class you’ll be prepared to join in on the next Thriller flash mob or be the hit at your next party! The instructor is a professional dance and fitness instructor, performer, and has taught and performed Thriller since 2008. 4 classes run 10/2-10/23.

Thriller Dance $20

Learn the “Thrill the World” version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance. During this 4-week session you will learn all the steps (no dance experience necessary) and practice the entire dance. If there is enough interest, the instructor will provide some quick tips on Zombie makeup, character and costumes. All participants will receive a dance script so that you can practice at home. After this class you’ll be prepared to join in on the next Thriller flash mob or be the hit at your next party! The instructor is a professional dance and fitness instructor, performer, and has taught and performed Thriller since 2008. 4 classes run 10/2-10/23.

Drop by this writing circle, hosted by author Jeanine Walker, for writing exercises and motivation.

Attend free drop-in writing circles facilitated by established local writers from Hugo House! Bring something you’re working on, or just come ready to write. You will have the opportunity to share your work and get feedback – but only if you want to (no pressure!). You can also use this time to increase productivity on your current work in progress, surrounded by fellow writers. Open to all ages and genres of writing. Jeanine Walker will be facilitating the West Seattle Branch writing circles.

Jeanine Walker was a 2015 Jack Straw Writer and has published poems in Cimarron Review, Narrative, Pleiades, and Web Conjunctions. She holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston and teaches for Writers in the Schools.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Bring a laptop or pen and paper — and be ready to write!

Thriller Dance $20

Learn the “Thrill the World” version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance. During this 4-week session you will learn all the steps (no dance experience necessary) and practice the entire dance. If there is enough interest, the instructor will provide some quick tips on Zombie makeup, character and costumes. All participants will receive a dance script so that you can practice at home. After this class you’ll be prepared to join in on the next Thriller flash mob or be the hit at your next party! The instructor is a professional dance and fitness instructor, performer, and has taught and performed Thriller since 2008. 4 classes run 10/2-10/23.

All Lifelong Recreation activities are suited specifically for those age 50 and older AND are right here in your Seattle neighborhood.

NW Delights lunch & Wine Academy tour @ South Seattle College

All proceeds from this event benefit the Shorewood Elementary School PTA, which provides library, classroom and field trip support, as well as fun activities for the students.

Seattle Writes: Writing Circle With Hugo House @ West Seattle (Admiral) Library

Drop by this writing circle, hosted by author Jeanine Walker, for writing exercises and motivation.

Attend free drop-in writing circles facilitated by established local writers from Hugo House! Bring something you’re working on, or just come ready to write. You will have the opportunity to share your work and get feedback – but only if you want to (no pressure!). You can also use this time to increase productivity on your current work in progress, surrounded by fellow writers. Open to all ages and genres of writing. Jeanine Walker will be facilitating the West Seattle Branch writing circles.

Jeanine Walker was a 2015 Jack Straw Writer and has published poems in Cimarron Review, Narrative, Pleiades, and Web Conjunctions. She holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston and teaches for Writers in the Schools.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Bring a laptop or pen and paper — and be ready to write!

Seattle Writes: Writing Circle With Hugo House @ West Seattle (Admiral) Library

At the West Seattle (Admiral) Library:

Drop by this writing circle, hosted by author Jeanine Walker, for writing exercises and motivation.

Attend free drop-in writing circles facilitated by established local writers from Hugo House! Bring something you’re working on, or just come ready to write. You will have the opportunity to share your work and get feedback – but only if you want to (no pressure!). You can also use this time to increase productivity on your current work in progress, surrounded by fellow writers. Open to all ages and genres of writing. Jeanine Walker will be facilitating the West Seattle Branch writing circles.

Jeanine Walker was a 2015 Jack Straw Writer and has published poems in Cimarron Review, Narrative, Pleiades, and Web Conjunctions. She holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston and teaches for Writers in the Schools.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Bring a laptop or pen and paper — and be ready to write!
