West Seattle High School is hosting a College Fair on Tuesday, December 10th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the lunchroom commons! Representatives from colleges and universities such as the University of Washington, Evergreen State College, Renton Technical College, University of Portland, and many many more will be here to answer any questions that you may have. Financial aid advisers will also be here to help you learn about scholarships and how to apply for financial aid.

Drop by this writing circle, hosted by author Jeanine Walker, for writing exercises and motivation.

Attend free drop-in writing circles facilitated by established local writers from Hugo House! Bring something you’re working on, or just come ready to write. You will have the opportunity to share your work and get feedback – but only if you want to (no pressure!). You can also use this time to increase productivity on your current work in progress, surrounded by fellow writers. Open to all ages and genres of writing. Jeanine Walker will be facilitating the West Seattle Branch writing circles.

Jeanine Walker was a 2015 Jack Straw Writer and has published poems in Cimarron Review, Narrative, Pleiades, and Web Conjunctions. She holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston and teaches for Writers in the Schools.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Bring a laptop or pen and paper — and be ready to write!

There are many different opportunities for getting involved! You can run to become a Precinct Committee Officer or join one of our committee groups, like diversity, outreach, events, digital communications.

Homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families are invited to attend The Ninth Annual Seattle Stand Down–a two-day, one-stop shop for resources and services available to Veterans who currently lack permanent housing or simply need a “hand up” in order to prevent homelessness. (This event is hosted by The Seattle Stand Down, a volunteer team of veterans dedicated to supporting veterans experiencing homelessness.)

Representatives from local businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, and all levels of government will be there with volunteers to provide medical screenings, eye exams, dental services, legal aid, employment opportunities, housing assistance, case management referrals, haircuts, personal hygiene items, and meals.

Providers offering services specifically for women Veterans, including health care, advocacy, counseling, employment, and personal care, will also be on site.

Services and resources will be provided at several locations throughout the South Seattle College Georgetown Campus, including the Gene Colin Education Hall–Building C. Parking passes will be made available to veterans receiving services. For more information about transportation, see The Seattle Stand Down Transportation page.

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines are radically changing the future of manufacturing. CNC Technicians use computerized mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses to produce the complex, 3-D structures needed across industry. Our information sessions at the Georgetown Campus allow students to tour the program space and meet their instructor.

Open Houses also give prospective students the opportunity to register for their classes.

Drinking Liberally West Seattle – Talking Politics

An informal, inclusive progressive social group.

Drinking Liberally is an organization with chapters across the country. It gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics, or whatever. You don’t need to be a policy expert and this isn’t a book club – just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it’s not taboo to talk politics. Drinking Liberally West Seattle – Talking Politics

First Tuesday every month, 6 pm. Pizzeria 22 is at College Street and California Ave SW in Admiral.

An informal, inclusive progressive social group.

Drinking Liberally is an organization with chapters across the country. It gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics, or whatever. You don’t need to be a policy expert and this isn’t a book club – just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it’s not taboo to talk politics. Consumption of alcohol is not required and our location is all ages.
