West Seattle’s Explorer West Middle School (WSB sponsor), in partnership with Longleaf Wilderness Medicine, is presenting a 2-day (16 hour) Wilderness First Aid class on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28. This is a great local opportunity to learn basic medical skills needed to respond confidently to medical emergencies in remote environments and earn a nationally recognized certification.
This class is open to the public, participants must be 16 years old to attend the WFA course.
Topics include: patient assessment, how to provide long-term care with limited resources, the decision of when to call for more help, and treatments such as splinting, wound care and managing spine injuries. The course includes classroom time, as well as extensive hands-on skills practice through medical scenarios and labs.
There is also an optional Basic Life Support (CPR) course available on Monday, August 29 which can be taken in connection with the Wilderness First Aid or on a standalone basis. The Wilderness First Aid course fee is $195 and the additional CPR course is $65. For more information and to register please visit:
