Join us as people from all over the world flock to Vashon Island, WA to enjoy the fascinating world of the working sheepdog. The Vashon Sheepdog Classic is the most attended herding event on the West Coast and is held on the breathtaking rolling meadows of Misty Isle Farms.

Come and enjoy local fare, fiber arts, and other artisan crafts while you experience this highly-regarded national competition. The Vashon Sheepdog Classic gifts the proceeds from the event to island non-profit organizations that focus on the enrichment of education and health for Vashon youth.

Event Costs and Transportation

  • Thursday (6 June): Entry with cash donation to support Vashon Maury Island Community Food Bank
  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (7 June-9 June): $15
  • Four Day Event Pass: $25
  • Kids 10 & under and well-behaved dogs are FREE*
  • Shuttle bus service from the north and south end ferry dock to event: $5 round trip.

Advance tickets are required for all days and events. (Print at home/mobile delivery.)

Thursday, June 6, 2019

  • 8:00 a.m.: Gates open.
  • 7:00 a.m.: Handler meeting.
  • 7;30 a.m.: Nursery Class #1 (dogs under 2 years of age).
  • 11:00 a.m.: Pro-Novice Competition and Nursery Class #2 combined.
  • 5 p.m.: Please note that the dogs will be competing all day.

Friday, June 7, 2019

  • 7:00 a.m.: Gates open.
  • 6;30 a.m.: Opening of trials & handlers’ meeting.
  • 7:00 a.m.: Open Competition #1 begins. Dogs will compete all day!
  • 10:00 a.m.: All vendors open for business.
  • 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Fiber Arts Village demonstrations.
  • 11:00 a.m.: Spirit Garden opens.
  • 11:00 a.m.: Sheep shearing demo with Pierre Monnat (also @ 2:00 p.m.).
  • 1:00 p.m. (time approximate): Bagpiping as fresh sheep are released and moved up the hill (south to north).
  • 5:30 p.m.: Close of day’s competition.

Saturday, June 8, 2019

  • 7:00 a.m.: Gates open.
  • 6:30 a.m.: Handlers’ meeting.

Guest Speaker

The 2019 Guest Speaker is Patricia McConnell, PhD, who will be speaking Saturday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vashon Center for the Arts and Sunday June 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Misty Isle Farms.

Dr. McConnell has made a lifelong commitment to improving the relationship between people and animals. She is known worldwide as an expert on canine and feline behavior and dog training, and for her engaging and knowledgeable dog training books, DVDs, and seminars.

Separate tickets are required for the lecture on June 8th, held at the Vashon Center For The Arts. This talk is typically a sell-out event.
