Sunday, February 5, 1 p.m. – Seed Starting for Beginners with Jenn Dowell

Jenn Dowell has been a community food access advocate for years, teaching urban farming in the Delridge corridor with the Little Red Hen Project. She also started the learning garden at Pathfinder Elementary, which has endured for twelve years and has become part of the science curriculum at the school.

In this class, she will explain which vegetables, flowers, and herbs are best started indoors in winter to be transplanted outdoors later, and which crops can be directly sown into the garden outdoors later, when the soil has started to warm. She will discuss seed selection, timing, growing media, lighting, hardening off, seed bed prep, watering, and fertilizing.

We have all the books, tools, seeds, soil, heat mats, grow lights, and starter trays you need to get a head start on your 2023 garden.

Jenn’s class handout will be available in both English and Spanish.
