Instructor Karen Finneyfrock guides you though ways to develop an emotional response in readers in this workshop for fiction writers.

Do you find yourself struggling to show a character’s emotions on the page? End up with a lot of hand-wringing and tears? In this workshop, we will explore some of the ways writers create an emotional response in the reader. Primarily geared toward writers working on novels or short stories.

Karen Finneyfrock is a poet and young adult novelist. She has been a teacher and Writer-in-Residence at Hugo House, teaches for Seattle Arts and Lectures’ Writers in the Schools program, and was the curator for the 2016 Jack Straw Writers Program.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required for this writing class, but seating is limited. Seating will be on a first come, first seated basis. Doors to the meeting room will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the class. We’ll try our best to make room for all interested writers, but students may be turned away if the room is filled to capacity. Due to the fire code, we cannot exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms.

Please bring a pen/pencil and paper or fully-charged laptop to each class.
