Saturday September 15th from 10 am to 1 pm I am leading a work party at the Recovery Garden (Brandon and 26th SW by Greg Davis Park- 2 blocks away from the Delridge public library close to the Longfellow Creek trail) tomorrow morning, and have had a last minute group cancellation of approximately 35 volunteers. This is the last weeding and planting of the park for the year, and I would greatly appreciate your help.

I plan on checking the native plants, shrubs, and trees that were planted last year and laying down a small amount of wood chips in the areas we didn’t get to yet. The park is not expansive, but with a 0% budget for maintenance we have been busy pulling and suppressing weeds.

The park is called the “Recovery Garden” as it was built with the intention of honoring the struggle of those with substance dependency and abuse issues. I started recruiting mothers from a local treatment program last year. Several of the women from last year’s clean ups returned this year to help – celebrating a year of being clean and sober – and mentoring the new volunteers. We have seen several of these mothers regain custody of their children. I am only expecting two volunteers from the center, but we have enough light weeding to do around the park to keep at least a few more hands busy.

I will provide snacks and refreshments. Contact me with any questions!

Thank you,
