One Reel announces Pianos in the Parks.

Founded by Laird Norton Wealth Management, 2017 marks the first year that local arts nonprofit One Reel is producing and programming Pianos in the Parks. “As a multi-disciplinary arts non-profit, I am excited that One Reel is able to spotlight visual arts, dance, comedy, poetry and of course music using the framework created by Laird Norton Wealth Management” said One Reel Executive Director Chris Weber, “What better way to discover your new favorite artist than around a piano in a beautiful public park.”

“We’re delighted to see Pianos in the Parks continue this summer under the management of One Reel,” said Erin Moyer, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications for Laird Norton Wealth Management. “Their lineup of innovative programming will help encourage even more people to get outside and discover our region’s parks through the power of music and art.”

Kicking off at 5 p.m. July 13 at 12th Avenue Arts, Pianos in the Parks Opening Night will feature performances by Tomo Nakayama, Lisa Bergman and a performance at the intersection of 11th and Pike as part of SDOT’s Pike People Street.

Each event will feature music performances by local favorites like Shendoah Davis and Tomo Nakayama, and classical performances with Yelena Balabanova, and KING FM’s Young Artist Award Finalists. For the aspiring young pianist you know, free youth piano lessons will be offered in the morning at each event. Other highlights include sixty-minute yoga classes centered around the piano, dance lessons and performances by ARC Dance, and Music Center of the Northwest’s Instrument Petting Zoo. And of course, it wouldn’t be Pianos in the Parks unless everyone got a chance to play, so each piano will be available for the public to play throughout the day.

Design and painting of the 2017 pianos begins on June 26 at Urban ArtWorks. Eleven artists will be working until July 12 to make a unique piano for each location.

Program highlights include performances by Shenandoah Davis, Vis-a-Vis Society, Lovecitylove, and Yelena Balabanova, plus free youth piano lessons, yoga, and more.
