Online talk: “Orcas and Chinook Salmon: Twin monarchs of the Pacific Northwest and their struggle to survive,” with presenter Lynda Mapes

The Woman’s Century Club’s September meeting will feature Seattle Times reporter Lynda Mapes speaking on “Orcas and Chinook Salmon: Twin monarchs of the Pacific Northwest and their struggle to survive.” Lynda will explain the roots of the extinction crisis facing the southern resident killer whales and the Chinook salmon they depend on. This story began for her in the moment of crisis as mother orca Tahlequah, or J35, carried her dead calf that lived only one-half hour through the Salish Sea for 17 days and 1,000 miles during the summer of 2018.
