West Seattle Meaningful Movies and the Southwest Seattle Historical Society presents:
Princess Angeline

Princess Angeline is a documentary by award-winning Seattle filmmakers Sandy and Yasu Osawa. They will both be attending this screening.

Princess Angeline was the daughter of Chief Seattle. She was one of the few Duwamish people left in Seattle by the 1890s, only thirty-five years after the peace treaty was signed guaranteeing that land would be reserved for the Duwamish people (which never happened).

The Duwamish Tribe was recognized at the end of the Clinton administration, only to have that recognition overturned by the incoming Bush administration. With historical photographs, interviews, and narration, this documentary explores the story of the Duwamish people and their unrecognized tribal status. The beautiful Duwamish Longhouse is here in West Seattle—on West Marginal Way, close to the Duwamish River. Come learn about and consider taking action on behalf of Seattle’s First People.

The movie is 53 minutes long. There will be a discussion with the filmmakers following the movie.
