About the Artist:

A direct descendant of Chief Seattle himself, Mary Lou Slaughter has been recognized as a Native Master Weaver for her work in the fields of functional and decorative traditional weaving. Mary Lou studied under Master Eddie Carriere, and her current work runs the gamut from skirts, hats, blankets, vests, jewelry and more. In addition to her work in weaving, Mary Lou Slaughter has worked tirelessly for the ongoing cause of the Duwamish People in our efforts to gain federal recognition. Her enthusiasm for weaving is only surpassed by her passion for preserving tradition and fighting for the rights of the Duwamish Tribe.
