From Greg Schreiderer:

There will be a transit of Mercury across the face of the Sun on the morning of November 11. I’ll be setting up a telescope with proper solar filters for viewing the event down at Seacrest Park.

The transit will begin before the Sun rises at 7 am in Seattle. I’ll stay there and watch until it ends around 10 am.

Transits of Mercury are semi-rare. There are about 13 of them in an average century. The last one was back in 2016 and the next won’t be until 2032.

did you know the parking lot at west seattle golf course has a view of mt rainier from the parking lot, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a telescope out there for this event,, easy access and parking,, besides what are the odds of nov 11 being clear and sunny in nov,,,

Greg – thank you for offering this! I was just wondering if my six-yo and I would be able to find a viewing party with the appropriate equipment. A quick search of the WSB, and voila!
