Cycle History 2019: The Places of Community

The Log House Museum and West Seattle Bike Connections present: The Places of Community.

Join us for a ride from Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) on an 8.8 mile route at a leisurely pace (10-12 mph)!

The theme for this ride is Community Gathering Places. We will stop at several places in West Seattle where neighbors have come together to socialize, garden, play music, talk about the neighborhood, and play outside, in places planned and built by neighbors. Knowledgeable local historians will tell us stories.

This will be the third annual Cycle History ride hosted by Southwest Seattle Historical Society and West Seattle Bike Connections.

Let’s meet at the HPIC at 9:30 am for our pre-ride safety briefing and ride theme description. Then, let’s depart at 10:00 am.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together. We will take it very easy on the hills on this route.

Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms and water at mile 8.2 at Highland Park Playfield.

There will be no food stops. Bring snacks if you wish.

You are encouraged to pre-register on the Cascade Bicycle Club page. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride. Pre-registration closes at 7:30 am on day of ride. After 7:30, just show up and register at the start.

Kids are welcome. Parents/guardians please read and comply with Cascade’s policies for children riding their own bikes.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Any kind of bike is OK. Please check your tires, brakes and chain in advance.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion–steady rain cancels–or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section on the Cascade Bicycle Club page at least two hours prior to the start, and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.

We hope you can join us!
