Friday August 14th at 3:00 pm at Kenyon Hall:

Course-Tuned Guitar Workshop with Sulphuric Symphony’s Don McGreevy

Course tuning is one of many experiments that can be conducted using guitars, pianos, or any other stringed instrument, to facilitate improvisation. Course tuning is when a stringed instrument is tuned to a single note in one or more octaves. When used in an ensemble with each payer fretting a different note, polyphony (independent tones in harmony) is achieved. This workshop will give students the opportunity to first watch and listen to several small performances using a small ensemble of players from the Sulphuric Symphony, then to participate in a question-and-answer period, followed by hands-on experimentation with the specially tuned guitars.

For the workshop August 14 at 3 pm, there is no admission charge.
