In mid-October, we shared that the Alki Point Healthy Street design is moving forward as a Neighborhood Greenway and permanent Healthy Street.

While people can still drive on the street, using the street as a cut-through is discouraged so that it stays calmer and safer for all users – especially people biking, walking, or using a foot scooter.

Please join us at an upcoming open house where we’ll share the early design with the community and get your feedback for our next round of design.

In-person Open House
Stop by any time! We’ll have several SDOT team members at the event to share about the project and collect your comments on the early design. Food will be provided.

Location: Alki Beach Bathhouse, 2701 Alki Ave SW
Date: Wednesday, November 9
Time: 6:30 to 7:45 PM

Virtual Open House
Join any time! We’ll have virtual breakout rooms, where SDOT team members will be available for your questions and comments on the early design.

Location: The online meeting link will be available in early November.
Date: Tuesday, November 15
Time: 12 to 1 PM

What’s next
After the in-person open house on Wednesday, November 9, we’ll post the designs on our webpage for your feedback. Please share your comments by December 9, 2022.

Questions and comments can be sent to AlkiKeepMovingStreet@seattle.gov or shared in a voicemail to (206) 727-3565.

This project limits access for all the rest of us who don’t live across from this public beach.  Only “local” driving access will be allowed—local equals homeowners as stated by one of tonight’s officials.   If the project is meant to provide MORE use and access, then do that by not shutting the street down to car traffic which is how most people are able to get to use this limited public space.  If it’s speed of drivers that is prompting this shift, that is an enforcement issue and not one that requires a reconfigured roadway that limits access to all but the homeowners there and able-bodied folks who can walk or ride there.  Equity to use this and all public beach space matters.  This city and COVID dollars project seems to be about special interests by local homeowners disguised as concern for the safety of walkers and riders.
