This September, Friends of Camp Long will host the fourth annual Camp Long Mountain Fest, celebrating Seattle’s vibrant outdoor community and Camp Long’s place in mountaineering history. Join us at Camp Long Environmental Learning Center, 5200 35th Ave SW, Seattle, from 11 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 for a fun and free day of outdoor activities for the whole family!

All participants of Mountain Fest will enjoy a day of free access to rock climbing, rappelling, and mountain themed-games and activities. Thanks to the help of our partner organizations, the public will also have the opportunity for nature-based learning. Event participants can develop outdoor living skills and can experience an array of programs offered by Camp Long and other local organizations.

In addition to the many fun activities and presentations, this year’s Mountain Fest will also host a special guest—Oswaldo “Ossy” Freire. Ossy is a Mount Everest guide for Seattle-based guide service Mountain Madness, and he will be presenting a slideshow and video of his recent Everest climb and other climbing adventures.

Mountain Fest activities will be made accessible to all people, regardless of their experience level, which will enable beginners, intermediate, and advanced climbers and adventurers of all ages to enjoy the event. Some limitations may apply for safety reasons, and all participants in climbing, rappelling and Challenge Course activities are required to sign waivers.

The goal of Mountain Fest is to continue the tradition started by Judge William G. Long and Clark Schurman of providing access to outdoor recreation and education to all people, particularly underserved and at-risk youth. Further, this event is intended to be especially accessible to groups including, but not limited to, diverse ethnic and cultural groups, youth, seniors, immigrants and refugees, renters, homeowners, local businesses, and LGBTQ groups.

Mountain Fest is organized and promoted by Friends of Camp Long (formerly Camp Long Advisory Council), a volunteer organization dedicated to providing environmental education and outdoor learning opportunities for youth. Donations and partner contributions to Friends of Camp Long provide funding for Mountain Fest and for youth programs and scholarships for underserved and low-income youth. If you are interested in volunteering for Mountain Fest or you are interested in joining Friends of Camp Long, contact Camp Long for more information.
