In our top photo, Ivette Johnson (L) and Bradi Jones (R) from the Feedback team are with Mary Clymer (C) of Happy Delusions. While we were there, Feedback’s Jeff Gilbert told us last night’s live performance by Fiasco was a huge hit and brought in lots of food-bank donations, and since their annual allotment of live shows isn’t maxed out yet, they might have the band back before year’s end. (Speaking of comebacks, the Feedback’s famous Sunday ribs return at 5 pm today.)
Meantime, to the east, at Our Lady of Guadalupe School:
Jonathan French shares the photo from the free Sunday dinner for people 65+ that he e-mailed about last night – with OLG students serving the visitors! If you or someone you know fit the criteria, you can still head over till 5 pm and get in on dinner (34th/Myrtle).

5 notes tonight – no relation except that they’re all West Seattle, of course:
BRIGHT HORIZONS TO LINK: When we took you on a sneak peek tour of Link (38th/Alaska/Fauntleroy) earlier this fall, we noted that 12,500 square feet of the building’s commercial space is slated for a day-care center, though its operator had not yet been publicly identified. Now, as Diane posted in the WSB Forums, the national/international Bright Horizons is acknowledging that they’re the tenant. Emi McKittrick of Harbor Properties (developer of Link) confirms it and says the official media announcement is yet to come – we’ll publish more details when they’re available. The building is expected to be ready to occupy early next spring. Meantime, a few miles south:
35TH AND GRAHAM: Several people have e-mailed to ask about “the construction” at this High Point corner. It’s not construction. As first reported here back in June, it’s a “petroleum contamination” cleanup – there’s still a development proposal for the site, but nothing’s advanced with it lately.
JUNEAU STREET MARKET: So much for the people who told us they were “remodeling” —
Thanks to multiple WSB’ers who sent word of spotting the “For Lease” signs in the past two days. This store was closed for 8 months after a fire in the apartment above it – then reopened this past spring, but apparently couldn’t make a go of it. Now, to the water …
FISHING IN WEST SEATTLE WATERS: For the third consecutive autumn, someone has sent a photo after spotting the Quandary seine-fishing off our shores. This one’s from Bob Bollen, shared this morning. Bikehugger‘s DL Byron posted a photo on Flickr showing two boats in action, including the Quandary on the right. (The 2009 photo is here; 2008 is here.)
Last but by no means least:
SOUTH SEATTLE CC PRESIDENT @ WEST SEATTLE CHAMBER LUNCH: Took the photo at lunchtime Wednesday, as South Seattle Community College president Gary Oertli (left, with Chamber board president and fellow Chief Sealth graduate Jerome Cohen) talked to the WS Chamber’s monthly lunch meeting at Salty’s on Alki. We also covered his appearance at last week’s Southwest District Council meeting, and he shared many of the same SSCC datapoints with the Chamber membership. But what’s important to note here is the Chamber’s growing collaboration with SSCC – what it sees as one of West Seattle’s key resources. P.S. Big event coming up next Monday at the college’s main campus on Puget Ridge – the fall wine release – 5-7 pm, you can taste, you can buy, you can see where SSCC’s famous wines are made. Then next Wednesday, Oertli speaks to the Kiwanis Club of West Seattle‘s weekly meeting (7 am November 17th, Be’s Restaurant).

ADMIRAL TREATS OR TREASURES WINNER: Part of the Friday afternoon Admiral trick-or-treating event involved a drawing at Merrill Gardens-Admiral Heights (WSB sponsor):
That’s one of the winners, Lafayette Elementary fifth grader Aidan Ewing. The basket he won included a skateboard from Alki Bike and Board; all prizes in the baskets were donated by Admiral merchants.
SPOOKY SIGHTING AT WEST SEATTLE FARMERS’ MARKET: Dina Lydia Johnson shares this photo:
The purple carrots, including the entwined pair, were spotted at today’s West Seattle Farmers’ Market, which also hosted a round of pumpkin decorating.
‘FACE YOUR FEARS’ INVITATION: The people currently running the “Nickelsville” homeless camp that might get a permanent site (as reported last week) are having a Halloween open house they’re calling “Face Your Fears,” inviting people concerned about the possibility the camp might move to one of seven spots (two in West Seattle). Till 6 pm, they’re welcoming visitors at their current site, University Congregational United Church of Christ, 16th NE/NE 45th (map).
ADDED 6:03 PM – HALLOWEEN AT TIBBETTS UMC: Earlier this week, we published Tibbetts United Methodist Church (WSB sponsor) organist John Van Lierop, Jr.’s preview of the church’s All Hallows Eve plans. Today, Wendy Hughes-Jelen shares a photo and reports how it went:
Pictured here is the leadership team at Tibbetts United Methodist Church this morning: Black butterfly Elizabeth Nye (Praise Team Director), creepy organist John Van Lierop Jr. (Music Director) and Head Pirate Rev. Dr. Joanne Carlson Brown. Much of the congregation came in costume, and the handbell choir also played a “spooky” piece, also in costume. You can enjoy their photos and videos at www.facebook.com/TibbettsUMChurch
The actual day/night is finally here – and despite all the activities of the past few days, there are still more on the schedule. For one – Skeleton Theatre, the animatronic extravaganza at 36th and Hanford, is scheduled to run 6-9 pm tonight (here’s our preview). And in addition to neighborhood trick-or-treating, two shopping areas welcome trick-or-treaters today – Westwood Village 4-7 pm and White Center 3-5 pm. More on the WSB West Seattle Halloween list. And from the regular WSB West Seattle Events calendar, pumpkin carving is a special feature of the West Seattle Farmers’ Market today, 10 am-2 pm, and the Halloween Ski Swap continues at the VFW Hall (3601 SW Alaska) 10 am-4 pm. In addition, ASB is supporting a local organization, Family Promise of Seattle, and all money that is raised from kid’s face painting will go directly to them. Family Promise of Seattle helps newly homeless children and their families by getting them off the streets and into a stable, supportive environment that moves them toward self-sufficiency.
