This evening we are inviting any cyclists, runners, roller-bladers, and walkers who are ever out in the dark-hours to come by and be video-taped to see how they appear to those around you.

See first-hand from another point of view just how well, or not, your lights and/or reflective gear work from all angles and in different lighting situations.

Power-outage coverage is winding down after five hours, and the weather is in something of a lull too. If you’re looking for things to do before/after The Big Game (1:35 pm), check the WSB West Seattle Events Calendar. Not TOO busy, but some options – including multiple venues with live music tonight, long after the game’s over.

The wind was already kicking up when we photographed the #12 flag flying with Old Glory at Alki Lumber on Thursday. That’s one sign of Seahawks spirit already in … and then we just received this photo from Al, taken on board “a school bus somewhere in West Seattle”…

SOUTHWEST DISTRICT COUNCIL’S NEW MEETING SPOT: The council that includes reps from groups around what the city calls the Southwest District – mostly western West Seattle – has changed meeting locations, starting tonight. 6:30 pm, Senior Center of West Seattle, the big upstairs meeting room. Topics include the possibility that city leaders might seek to re-map districts to correspond with the new City Council districts – reducing 13 districts citywide to 7 – here’s an overlay map of how the current city districts correspond to the new council districts:

INAUGURATION DAY: Not in West Seattle but of citywide interest – in the grand lobby at City Hall, 3:30 pm today, it’s the formal inauguration for new Mayor (and former West Seattleite) Ed Murray (who actually took the oath of office at home on New Year’s Eve), new Councilmember Kshama Sawant, re-elected councilmembers Sally Bagshaw, Nick Licata, and Mike O’Brien, and re-elected City Attorney Pete Holmes. HIGHEST TIDE OF THE YEAR: This morning and Sunday morning, high tide hits 13.3 feet – highest of the year. No storm surge, so no trouble’s expected, but if you’re by the water, you’ll notice it’s way up there, as explained here. 7:22 am today, to be precise. (P.S.
