6:59 AM: Good morning! Much-better weather this morning. But there’s one outbound problem – on NB I-5 downtown, the left lane is closed near Seneca, and that’s backing things up.

BRIDGE CLOSURES: The overnight closures for streetlight work have now moved to the eastbound side of the west end of the West Seattle Bridge.

STADIUM ZONE: This weekend’s lineup – Mariners are home vs. Texas at 7:10 tonight, 6:10 Saturday night, 1:10 pm Sunday; Sounders FC plays at home vs. Toronto at noon Saturday.

7:20 AM: If you use East Marginal south of the West Seattle Bridge, SDOT warns that the light at Hudson is flashing and that’s leading to backups stretching to the 1st Avenue South Bridge. They are sending a crew.

7:25 AM: The NB I-5 problem at Seneca is cleared, WSDOT says. Long residual backups, though.

7:55 AM: New trouble. Multiple-vehicle (6 or 7, says a reader) crash on the eastbound bridge approaching the crest, reportedly blocking the transit lane.

8:05 AM: SDOT says the East Marginal/Hudson light is back to normal.

8:48 AM: No update on the bridge crash, but if you are coming into West Seattle on the westbound bridge, SDOT reports a stalled vehicle is blocking one of the turn lanes to southbound 35th SW.

8:55 AM: SDOT now confirms the bridge crash has cleared.

9:07 AM: And the 35th/Fauntleroy problem has cleared too.

9:57 AM: One more weekend alert – eastbound I-90 work will add a lot of time if you’re heading that way – here are the details from WSDOT.

6:59 AM: Good morning. No incidents reported in/from West Seattle right now.

LOOKING AHEAD: Two SDOT reminders for Monday – first, they want to be sure you know about May Day demonstrations; second, remember that Fauntleroy Expressway overnight closures (west end of West Seattle Bridge) for streetlight work are set to start Monday night.

STADIUM WATCH: The Mariners continue their road trip this weekend … The Sounders are home at CenturyLink on Saturday night (7 pm, vs. New England).

TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday watch

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)

6:39 AM: Good morning! We’ve checked around and so far, no incidents are reported in or from West Seattle.

BRIDGE CLOSURES STARTING NEXT WEEK: Time for reminders about the Fauntleroy Expressway (west end of the West Seattle Bridge) nighttime closures set to start next Monday night (May 1st) for streetlight work – here’s the alert SDOT sent earlier this month.

6:56 AM: SDOT reports a stalled vehicle is blocking the transit lane on NB 99 at Lander.

7:06 AM: While that vehicle has cleared to the side, there’s now a dispatch for a crash on NB 99 in that same area.

7:18 AM: SFD has just cleared that incident, so apparently no one hurt.

7:24 AM: Reader reports pickup truck – stalled? – in the center eastbound lane at the crest of the high bridge. And a bus-trouble report – Russ tweets that the 21s aren’t showing up on 35th SW. (Added: A few minutes later, he says, two did show up.)

7:32 AM: While SFD cleared the newest 99 crash scene, it’s still affecting the right side of NB 99 by Atlantic, as shown on this camera. SPD is still onscene.

8:02 AM: Though no official updates have been provided by SDOT or WSDOT, we’re continuing to watch that camera and the scene hasn’t cleared yet – BUT it looks like a tow truck’s just arrived!

8:26 AM: Via Twitter, Metro reminds us that it’s having an online meeting at 6:30 tonight about its fare-simplification proposals – info’s here.

8:52 AM: One vehicle has remained off to the right at the NB 99/Atlantic crash scene. The webcam now shows what looks like a tow truck finally showing up for it.

9:04 AM: … and that vehicle’s finally being towed away, right now.

ANOTHER NOTE FOR TONIGHT: The West Seattle Transportation Coalition meets at 6:30 pm at Neighborhood House High Point (6400 Sylvan Way SW), with the agenda featuring One Center City – the umbrella name for downtown changes including potential changes for how some West Seattle bus routes get you downtown. Here’s what we first reported about it back in January.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)

6:48 AM: Good morning! No incidents in/from West Seattle right now.

PATH ALERT: A texter reports a tree down on the bike/foot path near the scene of yesterday morning’s Harbor Avenue crash. This was mentioned in comments last night and as we noted there, it needs to be reported to SDOT the same as if it were road debris – 206-386-1218 if outside business hours, 206-684-ROAD otherwise.

CAMERA NOTE: Still only one SDOT camera working on the high bridge, so that’s why only one is featured above again today.

8:01 AM: Slow going but still incident-less. Note for bus riders: Last week we told you about Metro‘s new survey asking your opinion on two options for “simplifying” fares. If you’re downtown at lunchtime, you’re also invited to drop in to today’s noon-2 pm meeting at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson) to talk with Metro reps in person.

8:23 AM: SFD has been dispatched to a crash reported on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge ramp to northbound 99.

8:46 AM: We haven’t had an update from SDOT but the 911 log shows that Seattle Fire units have closed out the call.

STADIUM ZONE: Nothing going on today/tonight – the Mariners are on the road; the Sounders’ next home game is Saturday night.

8:35 AM: SFD and SPD are responding to a crash reported at the Harbor/Spokane intersection.

8:43 AM: No word on how the crash is blocking the intersection, but SFD has already closed out its part of the call.

7:20 AM: Good morning! Lots of sunshine. No incidents.

DOWNTOWN ALERT: KeyArena has a big event today, “WE Day,” running through 4 pm – it’s on the SDOT list of potentially traffic-affecting events.

9:19 AM: If you’re heading out late – there’s a crash on the NB Viaduct at Seneca. Also, a crash response just dispatched to the eastbound bridge before the 99 exit – SDOT says it’s a multiple-car crash. (And we have multiple reports that the C Line is diverting to 4th as a result.)

9:22 AM: Scanner says the 99 crash/response also has the Seneca exit blocked.

9:56 AM: Two lanes are now open again at the 99 crash scene, per police, heard via scanner.

10:07 AM: SDOT reports the Viaduct scene is completely cleared. No updates on the bridge yet but looking at the one camera that’s working right now, it appears a tow truck is on scene.

10:21 AM: And now SDOT says the bridge crash scene is clear, too.

8:05 AM: Via scanner, word of a collision at 35th SW and SW Juneau. Police and fire are going.

8:23 AM: Texter reports the 57 is packed. Have not heard of any cancellations or changes for West Seattle buses this morning that might lead to unusual conditions, but if you’ve experienced anything – please let us know, when you can!

FIXING THE LIGHTS: West Seattle Bridge closures ahead

Next step in fixing the malfunctioning streetlights on the west end of the West Seattle Bridge, aka the Fauntleroy Expressway: Overnight closures, starting May 1st. Here’s the announcement just in from SDOT:

The Seattle Department of Transportation is advising travelers that there will be overnight closures of the Fauntleroy Expressway beginning on May 1 for up to three weeks for streetlight maintenance.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, beginning on Monday, May 1 through May 4, travelers can expect the following:

·The Expressway will be closed to westbound traffic, west of Delridge Way.

·The Expressway will close at 9 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. the next morning. If any Mariners baseball home games reach an expected attendance of 20,000 or more during this time, the Expressway closure will be delayed until 11 p.m.

·Westbound traffic will exit the Expressway at the Delridge Way off-ramp and will follow the marked detour.

·On some evenings, a single traffic lane may close at 8 p.m. for preliminary work in advance of streetlight maintenance.

·This work may be extended into the week of May 7 – 14, if necessary, until the work is completed.

When work in the westbound lanes is completed, maintenance for eastbound lanes will begin at the Expressway entrance at Fauntleroy Way SW and continue to the Delridge Way on-ramp. These closures will begin at 9 p.m. and will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. the next morning.

For as long as the work continues, we’ll include reminders in our morning traffic coverage.

POTHOLE PATROL: If you see them in West Seattle today, let us know. SDOT told us they were in south and east Seattle yesterday; We spotted one crew pulled over by 35th/Alaska but don’t know if they did anything, as they were gone when we circled back around to check. SDOT has an official “kickoff” event later today with the mayor on Beacon Hill.

ROAD WORK ALERT UPDATE: Surface Spokane St. paving east of ‘low bridge’ postponed

ORIGINAL REPORT, 5:24 PM MONDAY: Just in from SDOT:

Contractors working for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will be replacing several short segments of pavement on the SW Spokane St corridor on Harbor Island this coming Wednesday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The segment of 11th Ave SW just south of SW Spokane St (and north of Klickitat Ave SW) will be closed for paving [map].

Detour information:

Westbound traffic onto Harbor Island will not be impacted. Traffic leaving Harbor Island westbound to West Seattle will need to detour east off Harbor Island to under the Alaskan Way Viaduct for a turnaround on surface Spokane St, to return westward.

In addition, several small spot repairs will take place on Klickitat Ave SW, just west of the driveway into the office park on the south side of the street. These repairs will not require any detour.

UPDATED 12:05 PM TUESDAY: SDOT says it’s postponing this work until next week because rain is expected tomorrow.
