Still time to go out and meet artists during the March West Seattle Art Walk!

That’s Naomi Cox, who’s featured tonight – and all month – at West Seattle Grounds (2141 California SW), where you’ll find her until 8 tonight. She describes the work she’s showing as “using primarily watercolor and pen—loose and full of color. This show is a collection of some of my favorites—from walks, on drives, in the kitchen, and around Seattle—created as a set of art prints. I love it when my paintings brighten someone’s day, show a different perspective, invite a conversation, and help people connect to each other and their surroundings.”

Always a highlight on Art Walk night is Fogue Gallery (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor), with a variety of ongoing displays. Tonight’s featured artist is RobRoy Chalmers:

Also in The Junction, we recommend a stop at Doll Parts Collective (4448 California SW) – we got there too early to photograph featured artist Katharina Pritzl – but her work is fun to see, as is some of the quirky shop’s merchandise.

That’s Reese T, who will perform at Peel & Press (6503 California SW) Thursday night as part of Muse Fest: The Power of Women’s Voices. These mini-concerts are happening as a celebration of women musicians, during the February West Seattle Art Walk. You can read about all the musicians and venues here; all but one of the performances are set for 6 pm-7:45 pm Thursday (Intisaar is performing 7 pm-8:30 pm at John L. Scott, 4445 California SW). The performances are all free to enjoy, as are Art Walk displays and artist receptions (that lineup for Thursday is here).

That’s Cami Voss, one of the musicians slated to perform at a West Seattle-wide event during this Thursday’s WS Art Walk – called Muse Fest: The Power of Women’s Voices. Nine businesses will host performers, in the three Junctions, most 6-7:45 pm. The Art of Music, which has presented live music during several Art Walks, is co-presenting this musical celebration along with local musician Sue Quigley (who’s also performing during Muse Fest). Here’s the list of who and where:

All are 6 pm-7:45 pm Thursday (February 10th) except Intisaar, who performs 7 pm-8:30 pm, and all are free. You can find out more about all the performers and venues by going here.

Chris Baumgarten is a new guest artist at Fogue Gallery on the north edge of The Junction (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor), one of your potential stops on tonight’s West Seattle Art Walk. The artist is debuting a collection titled “Numbers” at Fogue, where you’ll find a variety of work. Stop by before 8 pm to meet her and browse everything on display. This month’s venue list/map is in the preview we published earlier this afternoon. Many venues – like Fogue, of course – show art all month, so the monthly Art Walk post is also a guide to where you can enjoy art in the days and weeks ahead, too.

The weather has lifted just in time for the monthly West Seattle Art Walk. Here’s the map/venue list for tonight:

Art Walk participants include both venues with art and restaurants/bars with specials for Art Walk night. Times vary from site to site. Though The Junction remains a major hub, venues dot the peninsula, as previewed on the official WSAW website. On the north end, West Seattle Grounds (2141 California SW) will have painter Nida Ansari on hand tonight, 4-8 pm. Toward the south end, Viscon Cellars (5910 California SW; WSB sponsor) is hosting Priyanka Parmanand 5-9 pm. The artist explains, “I paint florals because they reinvigorate ‘Hope’, the fundamental belief for human existence. It is an expression of all that is different while unifying this diversity through a common denominator of human feelings. Plus, they are comforting, healing and bring smiles.” And on the north end of The Junction, you can visit Fogue Gallery (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor) 4-8 pm tonight to see a variety of artists’ work – new additions are featured here.

Thqt’s “A Little Prayer for Those Who Migrate,” by Jake Prendez of Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery in South Delridge, the official poster for this fall’s West Seattle Art Walks. With the first of those Art Walks this Thursday night (October 14th), the WSAW makes history – with a record number of participating businesses (more than 50) and a record number of sponsoring partners (eight, plus WSB as media partner). West Seattle Art Walk coordinator Reeve Washburn notes, “This is a remarkable come-back from the dark days of the pandemic, where we went virtual for three months, then had only a small handful of businesses reopen to bring Art Lovers back together in the community. And it’s wonderful growth since the Art Walk’s restart in 2016, with nine businesses.”

One factor in the WSAW’s growth is the development of neighborhood hubs. The Art Walk is not just a “Junction thing” any more – the other Junctions – Admiral and Morgan – have blossoming participation, and the support of neighborhood groups (Morgan Community Association and Admiral Neighborhood Association). If you haven’t been out on Art Walk night, know that it’s not just about art – some venues also offer food and beverage specials to support the fun night out. Here’s the map/list for this quarter:

Washburn says the Art Walk has “had great turnout all summer,” which also has encouraged more businesses to join in. Some have artist receptions on Art Walk night; some have ongoing displays not only that night but all month long. You can find out more about featured artists each month in a detailed preview on the WSAW website – here’s the info for this month (including events’ specific times – most start at 5 pm but not all). Back to this quarter’s artist – you can see Prendez’s work not only at his own gallery but also at three other Art Walk venues this quarter – The Good Society on Thursday, Flying Apron in November and Hotwire Coffee in December.

In the heart of The Junction tonight, bassist/vocalist Marina Christopher brought The Art of Music back to the West Seattle Art Walk. (In our clip, she’s performing Warren Zevon‘s “Carmelita” with Andy Short.) The pop-up performances coordinated by John Redenbaugh returned to the WS Art Walk starting tonight, also featuring harpist Alyvia Miller at Welcome Road Winery in South Admiral. We have one more story to tell from tonight’s Art Walk, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. The Art Walk happens on the second Thursday, every month year-round, so the next one will be October 14th.

Tomorrow night, the last West Seattle Art Walk of summer offers live music as well as art displays. Above is this quarter’s list of participating venues, some with artists, some with food/drink specials for Art Walk visitors, some with both. This month’s highlight is the return of live music to accompany your Art Walk wanderings. September’s West Seattle Art Walk is coming up a week from Thursday – on September 9th – and it marks the return of “Art of Music”:

Many of you may remember the delight of live music paired with Second Thursday Art Walk in the last half of 2019. Art of Music brought family-friendly instrumental and vocal music to outdoor and indoor venues in the Alaska Junction, thanks to the passion and drive of project originator and coordinator John Redenbaugh.

We are thrilled to announce that, after the hiatus of 2020, John is bringing Art of Music back – and now to Admiral as well as the Alaska Junction! Mark your calendars for these Second Thursday West Seattle Art Walks:

September 9 • October 14 • November 11 • December 9

The September 9 event will feature award-winning bassist and jazz vocalist Marina Christopher at the KeyBank Plaza in Alaska Junction and harpist Alyvia Miller at the Welcome Road Winery in Admiral Junction. Venues for October, November and December are being finalized as we write. Verity Credit Union will host in October. Each venue will have two sets of music from 6pm to 7:40pm, with a 10 minute break in-between.
