In this edition of West Seattle Crime Watch – a reader report and five incidents from recent police reports.

STOLEN BIKE: From Tyler:

Between 6am and 6pm, Monday the 16th, my blue Trek 1500 SLR Road Bike was stolen from a secured garage in my condo complex off California Ave near The Junction.

This bike was the first large purchase I made after saving up at a terrible job back in high school and has immense sentimental value. A police report has been filed. See attached flyer for a picture of me with my bike after STP.

We’ve also read through a variety of recently obtained police reports, from a streetside-parking hit-and-run arrest, to a phone call that tipped its recipient to identity theft:

HIT-RUN SUSPECT ARRESTED: Many hit-runs don’t get solved. This one had a witness. In The Junction in the early hours of February 8th, a 39-year-old Admiral woman was arrested for hit-and-run after a witness reported seeing the suspect’s SUV hit another SUV while parallel-parking in the 4500 block of California SW. She told police the driver got out and walked southbound to a restaurant/lounge. Then the owner of the hit SUV, an employee of an area bar, came over to find out why police were next to his vehicle. The report says he noted some damage and “would agree to exchange information with (the) suspect if she were found.” Officers found the vehicle’s owner drinking nearby and asked if she would be willing to talk with them outside. She agreed. At first, they say, she agreed to go back to the scene and exchange information with the other SUV’s owner, but once there, balked and started denying hitting it, becoming uncooperative. After they warned her repeatedly that she was at risk of being arrested, the report says, they arrested her, and while walking her to a patrol vehicle, she “turned and attempted to kick me,” wrote one officer, saying the suspect then “began screaming and yelling.” She was booked into the King County Jail, where, according to the register, she spent two hours.

FOUND ITEMS: This report is two weeks old so we’re hoping the items have been reunited with their owner(s). In case they haven’t – a neighbor in the 3900 block of SW Ida in Gatewood reported various items dumped on their planting strip; the finder placed them in a box, called police, and left. According to the police report:

The box contained a hat, a nylon bag, a West Seattle Bowl Plaque, a pair of black Dexter bowling shoes, a bowling ball bag, a black Stafford shirt, and a bowling trophy. The bowling trophy had the name of “Ryan R—-k” on the front.

They couldn’t find a record of anyone with the name on the trophy (though we just checked a public database and as of 2012, there were two people with that name listed on state voter records, one in Kirkland and one in Marysville). If any of this sounds familiar to you, contact police.

MAIL THEFT: On 35th SW in Arbor Heights, sometime between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, someone stole a check for $50 from outgoing mail placed in a mailbox for pickup.

CALL TIPS LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR TO IDENTITY THEFT: This report was taken by phone:

A representative from Paypal Mastercard backed by Syncrony Bank contacted me on 01/29/15. The representative informed me that I was past due on a bill for a Paypal Mastercard; however, I informed her that I do not have a Paypal Mastercard, nor did I open one recently. The representative had my correct name, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of my social security number on file, however, the email address and mailing address linked to this account are not, and have never been associated to me.

The mailing address was in Montana. The victim was advised to call the company to report the fraud and cancelthe card.

GRAFFITI VANDALS PAINT CAR: You’ve probably noticed that graffiti/tagging vandalism is more extensive than ever right now. In early February, a car owner found someone had vandalized her car, parked on a West Seattle street, with what appeared to be two tags, three letters and five letters, in black spray paint on the passenger doors. Be sure to report graffiti vandalism to police – you can even do that online.
