West Seattle Crime Watch: Is this stolen car on your block?

Police say stolen cars are often abandoned relatively close to where they were taken – so there’s a chance this car could be somewhere in West Seattle. Mike e-mailed tonight to get the word out about the theft:

Our locked vehicle was taken from near the intersection of 41st Ave SW and SW Hinds at some point between late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. There wasn’t really anything in the car, and the vehicle isn’t worth that much, but we’re hoping folks might keep an eye out for it, since my commute to work is a little complicated without it. A police report has been filed.

Basic details: It’s a white, two-door 1994 Honda Civic. It has a black bra on the front and a missing vertical strip along the driver’s side window.

As police say when they tweet stolen-car reports like this, if you see it, call 911.

When looking for stolen cars, always drive through Highland Park. I live on 18 th and we seem to get a lot of them

Is there a running tally on the number of stolen cars reported to police that we’ve had in West Seattle? Seems like every week this blog has owners reporting stolen cars, and there are doubtless MANY more that folks aren’t reporting here. It would also be great if there was some way we could get an ongoing/updated list of stolen cars so we can all act as a community to get them back to their owners.

Finally, our 90’s Toyota truck was stolen from our yard about 2 weeks ago. We found it parked on California a few days later and reclaimed it, and saw on here that another stolen car (90’s Honda) was also found by the owner this week. There are probably more success stories out there, and I, for one, would LOVE to read them! (In case anyone is wondering, there seems to be very little police can do to track down thieves – at least in our case – as they were unable (?) to fingerprint our truck after we found it.)

Sorry, comment time is over.
