West Seattle Crime Watch: Another 35th SW car theft

8:38 AM: Be on the lookout for SB‘s car:

Our white 1994 Honda Accord was stolen from the back of our house in the 3800 block of 35th Ave. SW early this morning. I noticed it was gone when I woke up and looked out the window just after 3 a.m. It was there when I went to bed just before 10 p.m. License plate is 182 ZVK. I filed a police report and noticed that this is just a block from where an Infiniti was stolen about the same time yesterday. They’d wiped the condensation off of the window of another car we have…apparently to look inside and see if there was anything valuable in it…or if the keys were inside?

We have pictures since we’ve been trying to sell it. It was all cleaned up and ready to go. :-(

We’ll add a photo if we get one.

10:26 AM UPDATE: SB says police found her car:

SPD called just after 9 a.m. to let us know they found it. It was abandoned with a bunch of stuff inside and minus the stereo in an alley behind 60th just north of Admiral.

Unfortunately, if you check the comments, another car was then stolen there. If we get more info on THAT car, we’ll update this again.

Very sorry to read this, seems that car thieves are getting more and more brazen.

I always try to remember to lock my doors, set my alarm, and put on the club. It’s a pain in the butt, but unfortunately necessary these days.

Another good anti-theft device is the one that locks over the brake pedal thus making brakes unusable. I use it & it works great. I prefer it over the steering wheel club. I got mine a while back at the key shop across from the new Safeway. I don’t know if still have or not. If thieves try to steal the car by towing, I read on a police suggestion through the blog a while back that you should turn your wheels into the curb and set the parking brake. If you can, motion detector lights in the area of the car might help deter them.

Across from where the Infiniti was stolen that morning they also tried the door to see if it was open on my wife’s car. Crime of opportunity. Don’t forget to lock your car, makes it that much easier for them.

We just picked up our white Honda. Looks like they used a shaved key to gain entry and start the car. They hit our other car as they were leaving. Our Honda was filled with broken glass (from other peoples cars) personal belongings of others, and a large hydraulic car jack. They took our stereo (of course) and generally trashed the car. If there is a Casandra who is a registered nurse and just had a window smashed, we may have some of your items. The police took the rest of the items and ID badges that were left in the car.

I found Nichole’s stuff next to Schmitz park on Stevens where the street dead ends into stairs. This is a spot where I’ve found other stuff dumped from stolen cars. They of course didn’t discard her laptop. Activate your Apple recovery firmware or get LoJack! Let’s let our devices help find these turds.

What good does finding these criminals do?
It seems, no matter what they’ve done to the community, they’re back on the streets to terrorize and victimize us the next day.

So we throw in the towel? I agree sentences many times don’t meet our expectations but there is a big difference between being an anonymous criminal and a known criminal. Address sentencing concerns legislatively but use the resources we now have to make life harder on these losers. Nice life picking through cars at night. Very sexy.

Perhaps a better approach is to point the police in the direction of your stolen property, Jeff. There have been a couple of recent stolen property busts by police pointed to the stolen gear by citizens. Just a thought. Put down the pitchfork.

Our downstairs neighbor had his car rifled through last night (they even popped his hood) on Andover, just east of 35th SW. And my husband saw a Mercedes with a smashed windshield this morning around the block, probably the 3800s on 34th SW. I hope these jerks get picked up soon!

May I make a suggestion? If you own a Honda,or something so desirable that these punks feel they have to have it….I’d suggest either you use a club, or pull the wire on your distributor before you go to bed. Its a hassle, but at least your car wont start. Or a hidden on/off switch. Something.
I had a hidden kill switch on my VW, but it didn’t stop them from stealing my battery. But that was nothing in comparison to what could have happened.

steve brings up a good point. a guy at my office had his car stolen over a year ago. he got the insurance payout. then a month ago his car turns up. he’s already bought another car. insurance company demands their money back. what a friggin mess. time to add security to your cars or get someone to help to add it if you haven’t done so. glass and an ignition lock are not adequate.
