Tonight’s the final night for summer hours at Alki, Don Armeni

As noted here three-plus weeks ago, Labor Day was not the end of earlier-for-summer closing time at Alki Beach and Don Armeni Boat Ramp. Tonight, however, is, as we first reported in March. Both park areas close at 10:30 pm one last time tonight; starting tomorrow, Alki’s closing time will be 11:30 pm, while Don Armeni is supposed to revert to 24-hour operation.

A real bummer that the Seattle Parks Department removes the fire pits for the fall, winter, and spring months. As the burn ban ends tomorrow and the sun sets earlier, a gathering for an evening bonfire sure is a nice treat. I figured all that volleyball tournament income would make for a good budget for Alki.

They remove the fire pits but are beach fires banned?  I fondly remember winter fires on Alki back when fire pits were year round.

Insanity. The cooler days with fridged nights are when people need beach fires the most. Huddling around a fire with a warm drink is something you do on a breezy night in November, not a balmy night in August.

If Don Armeni  is going to be open on a 24 hour schedule,  then our understaffed SW Precinct will become even more heavily burdened. Don Armeni has historically been one of the most problematic with after hours partying, drugs, drinking, shootings, car racing, and unbearable noise into the wee hours of the morning. The decision to do this  was nothing less than pure insanity.

It is also salmon fishing season and the boat ramp is needed for the early morning fisherman. Not everything is gloom and doom

      Probably shouldn’t have moved there.

The decision to extend the early closures two months into the cold and dark time of the year?  Sounds like the decision gave you more of the mandatory police presence you desire.  They’ll now be free to respond to incidents in progress.
