Potential matter of life and death … If there is a report in a residential building, the rule is, send everybody first, much easier to call them off than for one unit to arrive, report there’s a major fire, and then have to wait for reinforcements to be dispatched and arrive.
Incidents like these show why the drones SFD is requesting will be very useful in being able to gauge a threat prior to sending out dozens of vehicles
I doubt drones would be much help in that way. If the drone DID find a large response was warranted, the responders would already be late.
Incorrect. A 911 caller’s report of a building fire triggers a standard dispatch of units based on the occupancy (house, apartment, commercial/industrial) or reported type of fire (brush, car, marine, haz-mat, etc.).The initial dispatch of units will not be delayed awaiting video feed from a drone, but the drone operator/dispatcher may be able to modify the response (downsize or increase) based upon observed conditions. Additionally, critical information may be able to be discerned & relayed to responding units regarding victim locations, access routes, fire spread, etc.
On SFD live they called in about 15 units. Thankfully it was nothing big.

Glad for SFD response, happy no emergency. Bonair is a narrow, tough, limited access location. Don’t know about drones ability to determine emergency. SFD responds to medical which are most likely in this area.
