UPDATE: Fire response near Home Depot

(Added: Reader photo)

9:20 AM: Avoid Sylvan Way in the Home Depot vicinity for a while. SFD has a midsize response for what’s described as a “large structure fire in the woods,” after what might have been a propane explosion. They’re blocking Delridge/Orchard too.

9:25 AM: Past the north side of Home Depot, police say one eastbound lane is open.

9:34 AM: Police report “fire is starting to pull their hoses out of the street” so this is wrapping up. No word of any injuries.

I was going east and was the first person to stop and halt traffic. Police finally drove up in front of my car and the officer told me to turn around and that it was an explosion.

I drove west on Sylvan Way yesterday past the home depot and noticed a couple of guys building a structure out of pallets in the woods just east of the Vietnamese Cultural Center and the Halal Market. I wonder if that is where the fire occurred.

I finally had time to add a reader photo showing where the smoke was coming from – it was on the Home Depot side, not the side you mention.

It’s that encampment again. A very large tent is set back there. It’s been pretty active and I wish they could thin out the woods better so it’s more visible from the road so they can’t sneak in and out.

How is it that you always know everything? You post about Beach Drive activities. Delridge. Lightrail routes nowhere close to your residence. Just everything always. You always “other” and “strawman” a friend who lives by whatever the article is about. You cannot be right about all of it, so why do you do this. I’ve been documenting it just for fun. You post so much unchecked junk.

You just described yourself, Derek. I can’t believe your bullying, rambling post was published.

I’ve literally had this same conversation with co-workers that read the Blog.  I don’t always agree with Derek, but he’s right on the money here.  I wish he hadn’t called her out, though, for fear the entertainment faucet will slow now.

Pretty disturbing of you. I don’t find starting rumors and gossiping about others at work entertainment. But some people’s children.

Where exactly do I live Derek? I’m from West Seattle and am on West Seattle roads daily running around. I’m also incredibly aware of my surroundings and alert, so not sure why you’re so triggered about my factual comments. If I wasn’t so uber aware of what’s going on in my own community, I wouldn’t have the track record of finding missing people, saving animals and people from situations and locating stolen vehicles. I have hundreds of friends and a lot of family in our area and you are completely clueless where I reside. I hope you can address your nastiness soon. It was completely uncalled for.

Don’t worry about Derek…if this was a different website he’d just block you so you couldn’t see what he’s commenting like he did with me (LOL) just because we disagreed on a subject a couple yrs ago.

Hi Derek  I can still see you’re at it. 🙋🏻‍♀️

You tell people what neighborhood you live in every time someone comments “you live on Alki, so…”.  You’ve shared that info several times.

Do we have to separate you two? Don’t make me pull this car over.

I noticed a pretty elaborate and large pallet makeshift building down in that area yesterday, it had more than 4 walls. They “swept” this area last year for similar reasons and it lasted less than 12 hours before people were back. It’s a popular patch of green space.

As per usual, The WSB has the story.  Happened to drive there during the closure and knew that I could check and see what it was when I got home.  Thanks, WS

No too surprising. I go by there on my way to work everyday. You can smell the campfires.

Sorry, comment time is over.
