UPDATE: Water break in High Point

7:02 PM: Thanks for the tip about a water outage in High Point. The Seattle Public Utilities water-trouble map confirms SPU is dealing with a water break at 34th/Raymond, affecting more than 30 customers; it was reported less than an hour ago. This comes as temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s tonight, so be extra-careful in that area in the morning!

9:04 PM: Fixed fast. We went through the area around 8:30 pm and the crew was already gone; the outage map says service was restored by 7:40.

ADDED: Brad Wong from SPU tells WSB, “It was an 8-inch distribution pipe. The cause is unknown.”

Let’s add 20% more houses in Seattle and not talk about the infrastructure that is at the end of the feasible lifespan and failing. Many of the residential sewer lines are currently failing within the city. This makes wonder about  the condition of the sewer main lines. How many sewer spills have we had in the last 3 years? How will the existing sewage treatment plants be able to handle the additional homes?

You have gone down a path not tied to the water pipe break which happens more often during cold weather due to ground shrinkage.  You must realize that proactive replacement of underground utilities requires both the budget and disruption of services, nobody wants the street dug up willy nilly.  The sewer issues were electrical or controlling failures not piping, if you want new pipes and treatment facilities you better come up with a few billion.

It was fixed really fast.  I had used the water around 6:40 making dinner.  Around 7, a neighbor texted to ask if our water was out — to my surprise, it was.  About 5 minutes later, it was on again. I don’t know what time the outage began, but it was working again by about 7:05.

Sorry, comment time is over.
