WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Admiral Way 7-11 robbery (updated)

8:03 PM: Police are investigating an armed robbery at the Admiral Way 7-11 less than half an hour ago. They say three teenage Black male robbers in black ski masks and dark clothing, with at least one gun, took the cash drawer. They left in what’s believed to have been a blue Hyundai Elantra.

ADDED TUESDAY: SPD has finally released the summary:

At 1940 hours, three suspects drove up to a convenience store located in the 4300 block of SW Admiral Wy. Three suspects entered the store, and one held the door open. The two suspects went to the back of the counter and showed the victim a gun. One of the suspects took the cash register, and they exited. The suspects left in a newer model blue vehicle.

What a crying shame that 7-11 clerks have to fear for their lives while trying to make a living. The three teenaged thugs need to be apprehended now before they terrorize another victim.

We drove by about 7:50-8pm and there were 2 police SUVs with lights on and the front of the building was marked off with yellow tape. The police were inside speaking with the clerks.

This is a weekly occurrence. SPD made a pinch with some robbers recently. I hope SPD catches these criminals. Without law enforcement, why would these poor people working the counter at a 7-11 be wrong to carry a gun just to protect themselves when nobody else is? Nobody at these 7-11s deserves this, and crooks do not deserve to feel free to do this or feel so emboldened because we let them get away with it.

Most 7-11 and other convenience store clerks I know (and have known) are armed while cashiering.

  I doubt anyone is going to turn gunslinger for what a 7/11 clerk gets paid. Do we expect the lowest paid workers in our community to die for a couple hundred bucks of their boss’ money?

Well, we voted in a bunch of people to run the city who blew a lot of hot air about law and order with zero plans to change anything, so we kinda asked for this. Elections matter. Vote for people based on their actions, not just their words.

Seriously, who shops there? I have not been to a convenience store in over 10 years and wouldn’t get gas there either. There was always a problem with the cc or no receipt at the pump and they don’t sell anything I need to get from there. I get that for some folks these stores maybe a necessity but when adding in crime – no thanks.

Plenty of people shop there, or it wouldn’t still be in business. I’ve never had any issues with receipts or credit cards. Plenty of kids go there often for slurpees or candy.

How many of you are old enough to remember when the convenience stores were not open overnight because of all the robberies like this?Seventies I think. Maybe it’s time to do that again.

Steph…I looked at WA state’s robbery rates from 1960 to 2019 and robberies have steadily gone up. I’m 76 and distinctly remember when drugs started to be prevalent on the streets in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Robbery rates from 1968 and onward started to increase at a much higher rates than the years prior. In 1968 the robbery rate was 3,223 hitting a crescendo in the 1990’s with 1994 being the highest robbery rate of 7,464. 2019’s robbery rate was 5,147. I would be interested in seeing 2020 to present robbery rates.

I remember when convience stores closed around 11pm but that was also curfew for those under 18!! Now 13 year olds are stealing and shooting innocent citizens.

These thieves have changed the life forever of that store clerk just trying to make a living. PTSD is real and hopefully the clerk gets the help he needs. I am in favor of treating these criminals as adults sentencing them as such.

I sincerely hope these young fools learn NOT keep doing this. I also hope they don’t find an armed and trained person who refuses to be a victim, and can living with themselves after shooting and/or killing 3 teenagers.
The Police presence was there for a considerable time. I’m glad no one got shot.

  An old saying: If you fly with the crows you might get shot. In a split second life and death decision the other accomplices could be injured during the commitment of the robbery. Let’s hope that it not a decision that most of us will ever need to make, even if justified it would mentally mess you up

Sure it’s bad to see these things happen but America has also shipped it’s major industries to other countries and also foreigner take over of local jobs and easy opportunity for outsiders to get ahead.. the youth of America has been put so far down and shunned from their own neighborhoods and brainwashed into becoming criminals as there only option to succeed with some sense of pride. It’s sad these crimes happen yet the whole structure of life in America is screwed up anyway and until better opportunities to move forward are present for all these things will keep happening..
