TRAFFIC ALERT: West end of West Seattle Bridge reopens after shutdown

7:42 PM: Thanks for the tips. We don’t yet know why, but the west end of the West Seattle Bridge is closed – texters report both ways, though the camera only shows a crew blocking it a short distance past the Fauntleroy entrance to the eastbound bridge. No crashes on the SFD log… Updates to come.

8 PM: Open again.

Maybe SDOT is resetting the jersey barriers. They were jutting crazily into the inside lanes today. Whatever happened, I am surprised the inside lanes were not closed until the barrier could be fixed.

Another theory could be that historically there can be accumulations of water making puddles that are dangerous to drive through(spinning out).

If only the bridge had been closed for years, then the city could have fixed the drainage issues without affecting traffic.

And, FULLY repaved the westbound curve by the dancing people instead of only half of it.

Pretty sure those sorts of things take financial allocations and planning and the repairs from the closures were going to have them scrambling for more federal emergency money to be able to shore all that up. Yes all those things would be great if agencies just had cash lying around but they don’t.

And they could have put in bike lanes  and fixed sidewalks on Fauntleroy Way with the money that was taken away from the Move Seattle levy.

We see crashes here monthly if not more often, and yet the highest priority of our CM is to spend tax dollars on reducing safety on Delridge (probably because they don’t drive on this part). Remember this when it’s election time and/or recall time.

Sorry, comment time is over.
