PHOTOS: Saturday’s West Seattle sunset spectacle

Thanks for the photos! Saturday’s sunshine concluded with another sunset spectacle. The photo above is from Lael; the one below is from Gene Pavola:

From Brooke Gosztola:

And a panorama from John-Michael Bennett III:

From sunset colors to breaking news, we always appreciate your photos – westseattleblog@gmail.com or texted to 206-293-6302 – thank you!

ADDED: Trileigh Tucker photographed what looked like a knighting at Lowman Beach:

Just one week now until the earliest sunset of the winter – 4:17 pm on December 7th. It stays there for a week, then starts moving ahead with a 4:18 pm sunset on December 14th.

Thanks all for sharing the sunset photos! The peak view I had should have made me rush over for the full view but was busy hanging my holiday lights.  And thanks for the reminder WSB that the day light will start staying longer soon :)

Why would the earliest sunset happen before the solstice?  That surprises me.  Are we sure?

    • WSB December 1, 2024 (9:55 am)

Yes, we are sure. The sunrises keep getting later and that’s where the day lengths keep shortening.

Fascinating!  But why would the sunset times get later before the solstice?  Maybe this is a question for Ms. Enevoldsen, if she’s listening.

I found this, which mostly explains it, although I have to say I haven’t fully digested this yet:

Truly fascinating, thanks to WSB for the education.

There’s a couple sites like that I consult daily, to include the sunrise/sunset times in the weekday traffic/weather preview. So I’m acutely aware of them :) and truly counting the days until the sunsets start getting earlier ….

Sorry, comment time is over.
