BIZNOTE FOLLOWUP: Here’s what’s happening at Morgan Junction’s ex-Sub Shop spot

Several questions today about the fence going up around the California/Graham building where Sub Shop #9 closed two and a half years ago. As we noted back then, the property is owned by the family who owns O’Neill Plumbing (WSB sponsor) next door. We asked them this afternoon about the fence; they say it’s going up so they can use the site and building for storage.

Bummer, I was hoping an ice cream shop, pizza restaurant, or a Total Wine would move into this spot…

Or a light rail station, even.  So many missed opportunities so close to the Morgan Junction.

Right?! Could have been a good spot for a post pickleball hang.

        The razor wire looks nice!

Damn. I was hoping for a sub shop with outdoor seating and beers.

I was surprised how decent their subs were when I checked them out shortly before they closed. I hit the other sub spot in Westwood every once in a while now.

If you are looking for good subs try the Super Deli Mart on 35th & Barton across from the Fruit Stand.  They have many beers on tap as well, Indoor and outdoor seating.  It can get crowded at times but they are that good.

Do us all a solid O’Niell and paint the plywood window coverings to match the building.  Thanks

This is a bummer. Frozen yogurt, cafe or a place like Heartbeet Organics would be better than storage.

I still miss the tasty sandwiches and genuine service from The Sub Shop.

Parking lot storage, the highest and best use, baby

Damn, I was hoping for more storage for plumbing supplies. Wait…. This is great

It would be nice if the property owner took into consideration how ugly this is to look at. First it was empty for two years. Now it’s going to look like a prison camp with all that barbed wire. It will for sure be a hot spot for all the taggers also.  I’ve seen other businesses do security gates that are nice to look at. A good example would be the courtyard behind Uncle Eddies in Southpark.

While it may not be aesthetically pleasing, at least it isn’t another vacant building.  And I am sure if that building has been vacant for the past 2 years, it was already tagged….like every other vacant spot and trash can and park and well most surfaces around here.

We drive by there daily. The O’Neills have kept it in good shape so far as we have observed. You can see images from the past few years in Google Street View.

O’Neill is great. They’ve been my go-to plumber for 15 years, I’ve hired them for fixture replacements, hot water heaters, major projects, and emergency services several times. They’re always very professional. Glad to see they’re thriving.

Echoing sentiments above about how unwelcoming and unsightly the fencing is. So many friendly retail/restaurant possibilities for this space and now it’s a high security parking lot. Very disappointed and will not be calling upon them when the time comes.

Sorry, comment time is over.
