My (step)son restored a yacht after retiring from the NFL.

Sadly, another case of taxpayers being on the hook. I’m guessing this guy didn’t have insurance that would’ve paid for a tow by Vessel Assist. I would also be very surprised if the vessel had current registrations.I’m guessing this is yet another tale of a ‘hoboat’ that will ultimately be broken up at the taxpayer’s expense. The only silver lining in this affair is that the skipper wasn’t injured. The bottom line is boating is a privilege, not a right. If you don’t have the means to properly moor, maintain, insure, and operate a vessel, it isn’t fair to expect the rest of us to bail you out when the inevitable foul-ups happen. This person needed to stay on the dock.

I know I would not sail without a motor, there are cheap solutions for that. eBay motor for 750 9 ho and a mounting plate for sailboat 86 dollars. I mean you need some type of motor or you end up grounding the boat.

He was at Colman when I ran by at 9:30. The sails look pretty ripped.

A police boat came around 10:30am and towed the boat away.

Thanks for this pic. Disturbing that it’s still there today, despite plans to float it off last night. If it’s not gone after the 12:30 high tide, suspect it’s abandoned… Grounding is inexplicable; winds at West Point were 7 kts SSE at 1pm.

No engine for back up. No anchor setup from looks of it…. if so it would or should have been deployed before beaching. Then leaving sails up while beached ?  very dangerous…
